Tuesday, August 04, 2015. The other week I spent 5-days in Cornwall making my own surfboard. It was a proper little treat and something that without help from friends and family I wouldn't have even considered doing. Wow, it was fun. Hard work and I made a few mistakes (thanks to Jaxon for helping me rectify them) but to end up with a proper custom board at the end of it was amazing. Also, Lisa managed to tag along and so ended up having a very relaxing mini-holiday. Pretty pleased with my shape. For me,...

Friday, May 31, 2013. Will I be doing it again next year.I thinking NOT! Don't forget though, if you still want to sponsor me, check out my justgiving. This was at about the 40km stage. Thursday, May 09, 2013. No to the action cam. So I have old skool and bought myself an O'Brien R5 - it's an old series and fin-less but should be able to take a beasting from the rails and kickers. The only problem being that it's fin-less and so it'll be an entire new feel for me again. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Laid-b...

Friday, April 26, 2013. A winding and a popped shoulder. You can't beat a sport with the added risk of injury. I'm trying to think which (if any) of my chosen sports have a low risk aspect to it.nah, can't think of any! From next week my work ethic could take a real kicking as the lake is open 7-days a week. For the last couple of weeks I have been restricted to Wednesdays only but so long as I don't have a meeting I could end up spending far too much time in the water from Monday :). It's all gone cable.

Sunday, January 04, 2015. Sothat's xmas and New Year out of the way. Now it's just about January and getting back into the routine of the real world again. Managed to get a surf in on New Years Eve. Popped over to Woolly, grabbed a surf and then had some scram at Bar Electric (tre-yummy burger). Anyway, this update it just to let you all know I'm still alive and still very much fighting the ageing process. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I work to live and definitely dont live to work!

Sunday, December 16, 2012. So much for snow. One more week at work and then we'll be heading down to Devon for a few days. It's going to be mostly jammed with family stuff but I'm taking the boards down so that I can sneak off to the beach for a bit of cold water surfing. As part of my bouncing around the web I came across this classic piece of (modern) surf history. Well worth a watch and I'll let you come to your own conclusion. Wednesday, December 05, 2012. First fall of snow. Laid-back and up for mos...

Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: May 2015

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 31, 2015. Paul invited me along for a float on the James to celebrate his birthday, so I loaded up Ruprecht and the canoe for a day in the sun. Most of Paul's tubing crew was fried from the previous night's partying, but Phil, in town for HIS OWN bachelor party, joined us on the water. And, as always, Eryn rounded out our modest squad of five. With four boats and zero tubes, we skated down the river - all the while Ruprecht jumping ship to cool off, swim, and eat the rapids. Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: Morris Cabin (Virginia)

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2014/02/morris-cabin-virginia.html

Sunday, February 16, 2014. This past weekend was the most enjoyable PATC cabin trip I can remember for one simple reason - fewer people! As the sun began to set, we exited the Jeep and began our hike in. It was a short jaunt to the cabin - about half a mile, but the deep snow made it challenging. When we neared the cabin, the smell of a wood fire welcomed us. Inside were Elmer and three of his friends. Along with our two dogs, it made for a cozy, but non-cramped stay. Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: March 2015

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 1, 2015. In Richmond put us all in the mood for bit of time on the slopes this weekend. Paul, Tony, Rebecca and I headed to Wintergreen to try to find our share of the soft stuff. Conditions were ideal. The sun was out and the edges of the slopes had plenty of depth to carve from top to bottom. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: Merchants Millpond (Gatesville, NC)

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2014/05/mechants-millpond-gatesville-nc.html

Monday, May 19, 2014. Merchants Millpond (Gatesville, NC). I remember seeing photos of Evan Venditti's. Trip through a swamp years ago and just thinking "What? For whatever reason, the idea of canoeing through a swamp seemed like something only possible in the everglades. Even then it seemed a little bit dicey! So I called the man, got info on where and when to go, and reserved a campsite as soon as I could! The trip was just what I'd hoped for. An unusual experience in a setting like no other. I...

Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: September 2014

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 27, 2014. The season's winding down, but our final trip to Snowshoe was a burner! Snowshoe experiences the Fall colors just a few weeks before most places, and our timing was perfect to catch the first glimpse of the vibrant colors. By Sunday afternoon we were all having a tough time holding onto the handlebars, but we still logged a respectable number of runs before packing up and heading home. Links to this post. Sunday, September 7, 2014. Sherando Lake (Lyndhurst, VA). We tried a c...

Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: July 2014

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 13, 2014. North Anna River (Doswell, VA). The week before the float we accumulated eighteen people to join us down the North Anna River. At the same time, the water level was steadily dropping and I was curious to know whether this year's float would turn into a "walk" instead. When we arrived at the put-in we were glad to see some depth, although it wasn't exactly a swift current. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Support the bus and get an awesome T-Shirt! Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: Johnson Cabin (Virginia)

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2014/12/johnson-cabin-shenandoah-national-park.html

Monday, December 29, 2014. Rebecca enjoyed Christmas with her family in Winchester while I spent the holiday in Richmond. The following day we met in Waynesboro and headed to our PATC. Cabin near Stanardsville, VA. The last time we stayed at a cabin nearby was our trip to Morris. That trip was snowy and cold, a drastic contrast to the unseasonably warm temperatures we enjoyed this time around. The sun felt so warm on Saturday that I braved the spring-fed tub between our cabin and Morris. Yes, Id absolute...

Schoolbus for Wandering Exploration of Everything TIGHT!: Mountain Bike Double-Header

http://sweetschoolbus.blogspot.com/2013/09/mountain-bike-double-header.html

Sunday, September 1, 2013. This weekend was an official MOUNTAIN BIKE EPIC! Downhill riding at Snowshoe on Saturday followed by the Shenandoah 100 on Sunday. Camping in Slatyfork was beautiful as always. Joey and I set up our hammocks in the mossy forest and grabbed a few hours of sleep before our first day of riding. Have a great fun.
