A Fictional Account: June 2015
http://www.nicolelesperance.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Jun 12, 2015. I have an agent! I've been in and out of the query trenches for several years, and one of the things that kept me going was other writers' "How I Got My Agent" posts. I can't believe it's finally time to write one of my own! So here goes. (Warning: it's the long, historical version.). So I wrote another book. It was much better than book #1 and got a lot of agent requests, but ultimately none of them panned out. I got a lot of kind feedback and a few requests to see my next manuscri...So ye...
A Fictional Account: Writing
http://www.nicolelesperance.blogspot.com/p/writing.html
First-place winner of the 12th Annual Writer's Digest Short Short Story Competition. According to Arctic folklore, if you whistle at the Northern Lights, they'll swoop down and carry you off forever. Sixteen-year-old Eli Davis knows it's true because it happened to her mother. Everybody says she was too young to remember that night in Svalbard when her mom brought her out onto a frozen fjord, whistled, and disappeared. Everybody says Eli just can't face the fact that her mom abandoned her.
A Fictional Account: My revision questionnaire
http://www.nicolelesperance.blogspot.com/2014/10/revision-questionnaire.html
Oct 28, 2014. What is the main character's goal for this particular scene? What is the conflict (i.e., what stands in his/her way, and where is the tension/suspense, even if it's minor/internal)? What does the reader learn from this scene? Not what sort of moral lesson, just what new, useful information does this scene impart? Does this scene really need to be here? Could I take it out without having much impact on the overall book? What emotion/mood am I trying to evoke with this scene? Copyeditor by da...
A Fictional Account: WriteOnCon fangirling
http://www.nicolelesperance.blogspot.com/2013/08/writeoncon-fangirling.html
Aug 14, 2013. Warning: Gratuitous, overenthusiastic gushing to follow. For the past couple of days, I've been utterly addicted to WriteOnCon. It's a free, online conference for children's authors (YA, middle grade, and picture books, and even NA this year) with a ton of fabulous live feeds, articles, and videos. Twitter pitching with literary agents, chats with editors, tips and tricks from big-name authors, the list goes on. Did I mention it's all free? I filled out a brief questionnaire about the main ...

One Sixty: Finishing Finish Work
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013/11/finishing-finish-work.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! It's been nearly a month. The contracts are signed, the deposit is made, the forms are filled out. There's no stopping the fast train to solar. I emailed just yesterday to check on the status of the project. and we're waiting on final approval of our first rebate. It could be tomorrow, it could be a couple weeks, I was told. After that, we'll be notified and probably scheduled. And what about the mudroom bead board/chair rail? We have a ton of bead board ...

Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Plans changed once more. and for the second time, it's actually a good thing. (Wow, things are just falling into place all on their own - like a tetris game of all squares.) If you recall, our carpenter was supposed to be over this past weekend so that he and Mike could rip off a bunch of old siding by the chimney and re-shingle to fix an ongoing roof leak in the bathroom. Ok - we'll take this opportunity to PURCHASE THE SHOWER! Can you believe it? So Mik...
One Sixty: Stairs - They Just Happened All of a Sudden
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013/07/stairs-they-just-happened-all-of-sudden.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Stairs - They Just Happened All of a Sudden. Hello crazy kids. I can't even describe to you the last nearly-two months. You would have to have lived through it to totally appreciate the insanity of it all. Back at the end of May (like, seriously? Well, I'm happy to report that the appraiser came and the value of the house turned out to be very favorable. The stairs from the first floor to the second have always caused us issue. They were temporary to ...
One Sixty: Manic Monday
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013/05/manic-monday.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! The insane plan that I outlined yesterday worked only partially. (What do you expect? It was insane.) Kudos to the guys for putting forth a great effort and accomplishing all that they did! Here's the wide shot - as you can see, that living room window is back in place and shingles are up all the way past the top of that window. The very tippidy top near the roof has yet to be completed. We avoided a HUGE step in the process. The plywood! Also what you ca...
One Sixty: February 2013
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Floors, Pipes, and Blizzards. Lots of excitement round here. so much so in fact that I haven't even had time to type out two sentences about it. Even though we're not a fan of it, we went to check out the stick-on flooring. (This bathroom is only semi-permanent after all.) And wow! 30 for a box of 12x12 stick on tiles that would cover nearly the entire bathroom floor. (Compare this to a good quality 12x12 tile at over $5 a tile! Flooring by the Shower.
One Sixty: Falling for New Projects
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013/10/falling-for-new-projects.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Falling for New Projects. Wednesday, July 24th. And I quote, " Now for a much deserved break from the house.". And for once, we pretty much made good on that promise. As you may recall, we had been feverishly completing exterior siding and stair railing updates in preparation for a lucrative refi in the early summer months. I'm happy to report that we completed that refi and are now saving about $300 per month. Woo-to-da-hoo. Hey, we're installing SOLAR!
One Sixty: May 2013
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Here we are, just about 10 days since we last chatted. And what a 10 days. The evening of my last post, I returned home to find the guys knee deep in side-siding. Even with only a couple hours of work-after-work, they managed to complete the right side siding up to the bottom of the windows. Going Up the Side. Going Up the Side - Close Up. The Door Color Previously Known as Blue. All The Way Up. What a Different Rear View! Scaffolding mess aside. what...
One Sixty: November 2012
http://onesixty.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Alright, so maybe that's the title I should have used back on our post-halloween-party bathroom breakdown blog. But I just now thought of it and feel like it's just too cute not to publish, even a little late. So, how goes the bath battle? Lowes did not disappoint in the vanity department. We found a small vanity, nice modern styled wood cabinet, with sink and. Mirror included. $200. Awesome. We did select a faucet for the sink. but since we'll be goi...

Renovating our home into its post-centennial era! Keeping Up With The Us's. No, seriously, you can't keep up with us. Don't even try. We're in a time warp mach 7 warp speed 10 black hole cheetah jet plane race car rocket ship. thing. It's fast. Yesterday, while Mike and I were working, the guys were back at our house. well, working. (Strange to leave people at our house working while we're not there. I know normal people do this all the time.). By the time we got home, there was a ton accomplished. Today...
