After visiting Lamot in Mechelen, I wanted to do design an exhibition about a prehistorical boat that they found in 1904 in Mechelen. This boat is 8,4m long and was minced with metal tools out of one oak strain. It was found behind the castle of De Borght, 5 meters below the ground. They also found remainings of 5 individuals. In the First World War the front army consisted mainly of Flemish soldiers, but they were commanded in French. These Flemish soldiers were thus humiliated and oppressed, just because they were Flemish. With the remainders of the dynamited IJzertower the Gateway of Peace was built in 1950 and they began to build a new 84m high Ijzertower!

A little explanation to the title: in the ‘Stedelijk Museum’ from Lier, they want to hold an exhibition about textile in paintings. Especially in the period from the ‘Vlaamse Primitieven’ (literal translation- ‘Flemish Primitives’) painters were extremely adept to reproduce the texture of substance as realistic as possible.
