davidsfoodblog: March 2006
http://davidsfoodblog.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 12, 2006. Very nice meal with GD at Rivoli. Hadn't been for a while. The outstanding item was an appetizer of thinly sliced, silky smoked duck breast on a little potato pancake with soft little pieces of leek and a mild hint of balsamic vinegar. I still think Rivoli is the best, although they seem to have lost the Italian tilt of the menu and are doing straight California-fancy food. Looks like it's off the menu as of March 15. At least for a while. Posted by David @ 11:53 PM.

Saturday, August 27, 2005. A Pearl of great price and butterskitch cockies. Grocer's Daughter and I went to Pearl in Oakland tonight. Neither of us had been. We split four appetizers and one entree, and two desserts (one more than was necessary). The things I thought were bloggably good were. 1) A bruschetta on a single big slice of very Berkeley bread (Acme? GD, could you tell? Anytime that you are able,. Put some sable on your table! If you'd rather call it butterfish,. There is nothing I prefer to it.

Sunday, November 27, 2005. Birthday wish come true. The recipe in my mother's inimitable style, adapted from the New York Times, including a concise operating definition of "a pinch of salt":. 3/4 CUP SUGAR: Sugar can be regular table sugar. If you do have extra fine or bar sugar, it will dissolve more smoothly but dont go out and get it just for this. Confectioners sugar will not give the right texture here. PINCH SALT: The amount of table salt you can hold between thumb and first finger. Preheat oven...

His being our inaugural edition and all, I feel the need to confess something and be as upfront with our readers as possible. I am in love with Colin McEnroe. Who is that, you ask? Almost as much as I do, and he loves Bill Curry. He is also several decades older than I am. Also, this is the part where I should say that because his name is Colin and ...

Sunday, December 11, 2005. A knish to build a dream on. Meeting my parents in NYC for my birthday, I demanded that we eat our way across the Lower East Side; upscale food I can get any day at home. But aside from getting a bunch of candy and dried fruit to go, the only fish we had was a few bites of the gefilte fish that had so captivated me on my last visit. It's the sweet kind. We were saving room for an early pre-show dinner at Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse. Posted by David @ 10:09 PM.

Thursday, July 28, 2005. This week marks the 10th anniversary of the first recipe I ever posted on the Web. I was playing with the new toy; I didn't post another recipe until starting this blog this year. Instead of putting the recipe here, I will give you the archaeological thrill of seeing the page exactly the way it appeared in 1995, modulo a few changes which are not my fault; the html is identical (but modern browsers now seem to make the background white instead of grey by default). It is easier to...

Wednesday, June 29, 2005. By the way, the last day in Singapore wasn't great for food but I did track down the elusive Bobo Chacha (no relation to Chichi Dango. Really.) It turned out to be a bowl of sweetened milk and shaved ice contaning cubes of taro, sweet potato, and multicolored, chewy, sweet gelatinous chunks. Not bad, but the Viennese don't have anything to worry about, dessert-wise (sorry, Chun). Posted by David @ 3:36 AM. Adapted from several mochi recipes from the Web). 1 3/4 cups sugar. Dredg...

Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Don't you wish you were there? An account of the Great Pinot Noir Tasting from my father, who gets to have this kind of fun fairly often. I ought to take a wine course. Thursday evening our wine group had its tasting at our house. We served the three French Burgundies you sent me for Father's Day. Against three Sonoma Pinot Noirs. All the wines were lovely and were. Accompanied by wonderful noshes bought primarily from the new Whole. Foods in West Hartford. A 2001 Morey-St, D...
