おもてとは絵画のもつ表層や面性を、またたてるとはそれを壁面のように垂直な状態へと自立させていくことを意味します。歴史的な変遷を背景に持ち、現在に至る別府竹細工は、日常の生活道具としての工芸品と美術作品としての工芸品という明確な用と美の二面性を持っている産業だと言えます。松田さんの竹工芸作品も、そうした別府竹細工が培ってきた用と美を合わせ持ち、シンプルな道具として仕上げられています。今回の展覧会竹のパニエでは、松田さんにワインを買いに行く際に用いる籠パニエを提案して頂きながら、人とパニエとの関わりや街につくり出される風景に注目をし、写真家新家加奈さんによる12名のモデルとパニエのイメージスナップと合わせ、展示を構成いたします。かつて佐竹さんは、2008年発表の Greeting flower について、自身の制作方法を私の知りうる人々を版的手法で三原色による花柄で描いたものと定義付けました。展覧会のタイトル花は野にあるようには、茶匠千利休が残した利休七則より引用した言葉であり、茶室に活けられる花の在り方を示しています。
