Dave's Nomad Adventures

Sunday, July 27, 2014. And I don't climb as hard of routes if I am trad leading. Then on this trip for the first time I did an alpine climb. This was the Beckey Route in the North Cascades. I wrote about that in my Washington post. The Tetons profile matches our rings. The arete in the middle was our route. So since this was to be trad leading, we chose a climb that was not too hard. I feel like it allowed me to really enjoy where I was, which was a very cool place. Looking up Cascade Canyon behind me.

Dave's Nomad Adventures: Steamy Holes and Bear Jams

http://www.nomaddave.blogspot.com/2014/07/steamy-holes-and-bear-jams.html

Friday, July 25, 2014. Steamy Holes and Bear Jams. The title of this post basically sums up Yellowstone National Park. No, its not hot lava. only thermophile (heat loving) bacteria. A righteous bear jam (we certainly added to the problem.). There were many bison around. The non-geothermal part of Yellowstone. Always more wildflowers! Dave's Nomad Adventures: City of Rocks

http://www.nomaddave.blogspot.com/2014/07/city-of-rocks.html

Friday, July 25, 2014. As we were walking out of Glacier, we actually didn't know whether we were going to be heading North into Canada, or South to Selway-Bitterroot, or the Crazies, or to City of Rocks. I am not totally sure why, but we decided on City of Rocks. I liked this because Idaho is the last Western state that I was to do something in and spend a night there (more than just drive through). Evening rainbow from our campsite. Doing some trad climbing since that felt safer than the sport.

Dave's Nomad Adventures: Washington is Awesome

http://www.nomaddave.blogspot.com/2014/07/washington-is-awesome.html

Saturday, July 5, 2014. If I were to move anywhere else in this country, it would be to Washington state. From the moment that we got there, it started to feel a little bit more like home, probably mostly because everything was green again. No more of this high desert. Also we have just gotten good vibes from most people we ran into. And there are mountains like no other. With Mt. St. Helens in the background. We could barely see anything because it just rained and we were up in the clouds. We went to th...

Dave's Nomad Adventures: Glacier Backpacking

http://www.nomaddave.blogspot.com/2014/07/glacier-backpacking.html

Friday, July 25, 2014. Based on how things were going with snow this year, we were thinking that we would not be able to do a whole lot at Glacier. In typical Dave and Nico style, we showed up at the backcountry office and asked, “What's good? 8221; An hour later we had a 4 day itinerary and a permit beginning the following morning. Hiking into the Belly River valley on Day 1. The short version of our itinerary:. Day 1 – Hike 10.3 miles up one fork of the valley to Glens Lake. I quite enjoyed this, as Ni...

Adventures by Bexie: April 2010

http://wordsbybexie.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 11, 2010. Earthwise Valley - Earth Oven. As I'm most comfortable in the kitchen, I was put in charge of building our earth oven. An earth oven is made from mud, sand, mulch, and bricks. All the materials were found for free on the land. To prepare for our earth oven, Dave and the volunteers had to put together a stone plinth. It was also made with free materials. Yea! Next time lunch will have to wait. The first layer was about 7-10 cm thick. The second layer is for insulation and went ...

One Great Dewdrop: June 2014

http://onegreatdewdrop.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty." (John Muir, Travels in Alaska). Sunday, June 29, 2014. Slowing Down on the Olympic Peninsula. It rained in Washington. Not very hard - but constantly. Big mountains hid in the clouds, and I never did see Rainier, except the visitor's center diorama. There is time ...

Adventures by Bexie: Earthwise Valley -- The volunteer house

http://wordsbybexie.blogspot.com/2010/04/earthwise-valley-volunteer-house.html

Sunday, April 11, 2010. Earthwise Valley - The volunteer house. Instead of grieving over the dropping temperatures and lost hours of sunlight, I'm content to finally take a breath! Oh, but what a sweet group of folks made up the summer program! There were a lot of projects around the house during these months: composting toilets, building a spa bath, working on a greywater system, etc. I spent a lot of the time in the kitchen: making jams and jellies, pestos and sauces, breads (of course), vege burge...
