Nomadic Birder: June 2012

http://nomadicbirder.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 24, 2012. Of the 196 species of birds confirmed breeding during the latest Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas (2006-11, http:/ www.ohiobirds.org/obba2/. Red-tailed Hawk - Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II results. Turkey Vulture - Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II results. Interesting enough, using eBird. For the past three and a half weeks I’ve been in west-central Ohio doing some non-bird related work in the agriculturally dominated Darke County. Upon arriving, a local birder and I checked an old barn...After a...

Nomadic Birder: Taughannock Loon Watch (part two)

http://nomadicbirder.blogspot.com/2012/12/taughannock-loon-watch-part-two.html

Friday, December 7, 2012. Taughannock Loon Watch (part two). Taughannock Loon Watch - picnic table wind breaker. Photo by Bill Evans). Today marked the end of the season counting southbound loons over Cayuga Lake. Altogether, a little over 6,000 Common Loons were counted in addition to a half-dozen or so Red-throated Loons. This appears to be quite an impressive number, but looking at the years 1993 through 1997, the average was over 10,000 loons! Have a Wonderful trip! Hope you blog about it! Exciting B...

Nomadic Birder: October 2011

http://nomadicbirder.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Namibia Update (Shamvura, Caprivi, Big Sit results). The final week at Shamvura was quite exciting with a couple more boat trips down the Okavango River and various birding jaunts in the surrounding broad-leaved woodlands. Although nothing out of ordinary was recorded, almost daily I was adding another country tick. African Openbills - Okavango River. African Skimmer - Okavango River. Southern Carmine Bee-Eater colony. Hippos - Okavango River. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Nomadic Birder: Yucatán Peninsula (Mexico), Belize & Guatemala (Part 4)

http://nomadicbirder.blogspot.com/2013/01/yucatan-peninsula-mexico-belize_29.html

Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Yucatán Peninsula (Mexico), Belize and Guatemala (Part 4). After an incredible day birding the Caracol ruins deep in the Chiquibul Rainforest, we made our way back to the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. Taking advantage of our high clearance vehicle, we drove down a horrible track to an area known as Big Rock Falls – an ideal place to set up camp for the night. Rio Frio Cave - en-route to Big Rock Falls. Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. 4x4 came in handy. Yucatán Peninsu...

Nomadic Birder: December 2012

http://nomadicbirder.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 30, 2012. Yucatán Peninsula (Mexico), Belize and Guatemala (Part 2). Back on the mainland, we took a bus 2.5 hours south (picking up a Jabiru along the way) arriving in Felipe Carrillo Puerto a couple hours before sunset. Originally the plan was to make a quick stop at a supermarket, stock up on foods, and head straight to the famed Vigia Chico Road. Rain in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Track off Vigia Chico Road. Some of the highlights include: Keel-billed Toucans, Long-billed Gnatwrens, Ros...
