UPDATE: Back in Seattle. Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 5:31 PM. Sorry for the radio silence everyone! As many of you know, Chris and I are currently back in Seattle. We will be re-exploring our home city for the next month or so, then we plan to take off on a cross-USA road trip. The blog will be a bit quiet until then, when the adventure continues! In front of the Liberty Bell. In the train station in Philadelphia on our way back to the Pacific Northwest! Posted by Danalynn and Chris. Back in the USA!

January 2012

http://www.nomadicvignette.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6:58 AM. I was so excited! Boulder Beach is aptly named for the extraordinary boulders. The penguins were dozing in the morning sun. Most of the penguins were nesting, still a few weeks away from hatching though. Goodbye for now, penguins! Posted by Danalynn and Chris. Photo-Essay: First Day in Cape Town. Friday, January 27, 2012 at 6:58 AM. I was tickled by this pirate ship, which set sail from the middle of the waterfront docks. Unique cruise ship? While volunteering in Geor...

Friday, September 30, 2011 at 6:58 AM. Written by Chris Coulon. This organization is similar to Helpx, where the work may vary. Unfortunately we do not know much about this site as we have not had the opportunity to use it ourselves. There are more organizations and plenty more to learn about the ones that we have listed. A healthy dose of research always helps before taking the plunge and signing up. Harvesting hazelnuts at a Helpx in France. What do I need to prepare in advance before choosing a Host?

Photo-Essay: First Day in Cape Town

http://www.nomadicvignette.com/2012/01/photo-essay-first-day-in-cape-town.html

Photo-Essay: First Day in Cape Town. Friday, January 27, 2012 at 6:58 AM. We started the day by exploring the V&A Waterfront, which had a carnival-like atmosphere. This sign helpfully gave directions and distances to many global landmarks, such as the South Pole and San Francisco (you know, in case we were lost and wondering where to go! I was tickled by this pirate ship, which set sail from the middle of the waterfront docks. Unique cruise ship? Pirate enthusiast with too much time? Hiking in the Garden...

Lady in Lima: Point for Peru: Tamales

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2011/05/point-for-peru-tamales.html

Point for Peru: Tamales. Are made using a corn based dough and usually are stuffed with chicken or pork, olives, peanuts and of course, Peru's beloved aji pepper (super spicy, watch out for that one). There's another similar food called humitas. Mm, so good. And how many days until Saturday? Labels: Point for Peru. Point for Peru: Tamales. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lady in Lima: July 2012

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

She asked. Next she began explaining that her only social interaction consists of time with her boyfriend's grad school classmates. "All they talk about is school and gossip. Who sent this email, who responded and who didn't. Can you believe the professor did that? She complained of being the only non-grad student and that she felt out of place in their academic circle. It's been a long, slow process but I can now be a part of his group of friends without being a nervous wreck. They all speak English!

Lady in Lima: My vote's in!

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2012/10/my-votes-in.html

Yesterday, I took a bus to the US Embassy and proudly placed my ballot in their voting box. The next step is for it to be sent to the States where it will then be sent to Nashville, Tennessee. On November 6th, I'll be watching the poll results and know that even from Lima, one of those numbers is me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Lady in Lima: An expat first: Reflecting on my first job

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2011/07/expat-first-reflecting-on-my-first-job.html

An expat first: Reflecting on my first job. It's been one week since my last day at the language institute. I was so excited about leaving that job that I made a countdown chain. Reminiscent of my days in the third grade, I excitedly ripped off one chain per day for one month. Until this, the final chain. Celebration all around! Here's what I learned from my first Peruvian expat job:. 1 Things in Peru take a lllooonnnggg time. It took two and a half months and my boyfriend pretending to be my lawyer.

Lady in Lima: Why Peru?

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/p/why-peru_11.html

In the summer of 2006, I made a hasty decision to study German. It was the summer before my Freshman year of college and I was ready to say adios. To my five years of Spanish classes. As a result of a chance encounter with the University's German professor, I decided to take German. What started out as a foreign language requirement quickly developed into a second major. So, boys and girls, the moral of the story is that study abroad is the best match making service ever. Im sure theyre updating their br...

Lady in Lima: June 2012

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

It seems to be a common occurrence among my expat friends. One of my friends has begun to keep track of the various countries he is "from" among them, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and England. But rarely the United States. It's an interesting phenomena and I'm not sure of the cause. Maybe because I don't dress like an "American tourist" or because my accent is a neutral "foreigner accent" (I would love that! And most importantly, I love that people think I'm German. Ja, danke. La abeja...

Lady in Lima: August 2012

http://ladyinlima.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Happy 100th Day of school from First Grade! This was my first time on the teacher side of the 100th Day celebrations and it was a fantastic day for teachers and students alike. I remember my elementary years and how I eagerly anticipated the 100th Day because the number 100 was infinitely large in my young brain. Every morning we count the number of days we have been in school so the excitement has been building since Day 1. My sweet cleaning lady left me fresh coffee from Chanchamayo, a town in the high...

The Nomadic Village | Living outside; our minds

Living outside; our minds. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. May 21, 2015. As I’ve said before, my goal in gardening is less horticulture and more intensive foraging. I want none of my plants to be dependent on me to live, so theoretically if you plant a garden Ryup fashion you should be able to come back years later with no tending and it’s still going. Why do weeds grow so well? August 6, 2014. Domesticated crops are less hardy (in many senses of the term) because they have been bred ...
