Naturally, out of this wistfulness was born a Tea Party. D and I made tea sandwiches (on homemade white bread no less! Scones with clotted cream and jam, served Digestive biscuits (the most bomb sweet-meal biscuit EVER), and made a large pot of Lady Grey tea! December 12, 2013. Well that winter chill was short-lived! Cue the snark and angry protests, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to this weekend’s 75 and sunny forecast. Thankfully I have an active imagination and in my mind, winter begins before December 21st and lasts as long as I can keep the tree alive (which in my case happens to be a good, loooong time ;)! With Hanukkah and the season of jelly doughnuts behind us, I look forward to another favorite winter sweet: gingerbread! 1 cup brown sugar.

In an attempt to recover from the gluttony of the holiday season, I decided to get myself back on track with a relatively healthy (and EASY) dish; specifically one that could double as lunch. I sprinkled a bit of pepper jack cheese on top and snuck in some lean ground white meat turkey, but good news my vegan friends…these can easily be made meat and dairy-less! Go forth and experiment with different veggie and spice combinations and be sure to keep me posted :)! Yields six bell peppers).

For some reason I’ve always felt a stigma surrounding the home preparation of certain shellfish, and until this past week I’d never bothered to try and prove myself wrong. What I found was that after a bit of (important! I can’t wait to try to make these suckers (pun intended) again soon! Warm Lentil and Potato Salad. May 7, 2014. Not to hyperbolize, but lentils really are the most stellar legumes. Not only do about 30% of their calories come from protein, but they have bangin’ amounts of cholesterol-lowering fiber, are low on the glycemic index, and are a great source of folate and magnesium. These little beans are bountiful in health benefits, and are absolutely delicious in all their many varieties! Oh, and did I mention they’re a cinch to cook (hello, no pre-soaking! 6 sprigs of thyme.

With temperatures dropping to the 40’s and 50’s this week and with a low of 38 this past Sunday (ok, that was at 4 AM while I was fast asleep under a giant comforter, but still! While I overloaded on pie during Thanksgiving, I somehow managed to miss the turkey…so what better way to put my dough to good use than a poultry pot pie! Entree-sized pot pies – recipe halved from original by Ina Garten. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts. 1 cup frozen peas.

Eggplant Focaccia and Caesar Salad. November 5, 2013. Yields 6 entree-sized or 8 appetizer-sized servings). 1 medium eggplant, cut into 1/4 inch thick rounds. 1 cup shredded Emmentaler cheese. 1/2 cup olive oil (since the oil is responsible for much of the flavor in the dough, I recommend a good, fruity olive oil – something you like with a great flavor that will hold its own). 2 garlic cloves, minced. 1 teaspoon dried oregano. 1 teaspoon dried thyme. 1 teaspoon dried rosemary. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.

My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night and it was completely packed with hungry patrons. We were really surprised by the prices on the menu as all the dishes seemed very reasonably priced.
