First of all, it's absolutely essential that you read the Union rules. They apply to every house in the Union, including this one. It would also be awesome if you could take a while to explore the Union's historical resources. Page so we can keep things reasonably authentic. Beyond that, there are only a few house rules:. Duane Street currently has a limit of two characters per person, which may or may not change in the future, and an overall character limit of 20. In your application, please do. THAT'S ...

Duane Street Lodging House. Might be trouble on our heels.". There's trouble on yer heels wherever ya goes, Racetrack," the old man rasps dryly. "Cowboy's even worse. An' yer Delancey friends knows full well they ain't welcome in this house.". Cowboy chuckles as he signs his name with a flourish and hands the pen to Racetrack. Then he turns around and finally notices you. "Hey! C'mon up and join a game, why don't'cha? Two bits says ya fold in the first round.". Jack rolls his eyes. "I was. Jack sighs at ...

By the time you hop to the ground, Jack and Race are waiting impatiently. "Hurry up, we's 'bout to miss it! Jack cries, dashing halfway down the street to hop on the back of a passing streetcar. You and Racetrack hurry after him, and soon enough, the three of you are taking a whirlwind tour of the Lower East Side. You look from his face to Racetrack's, then up at the towering brick building. Slowly but surely, you nod your head. XA9; Flare Higgins, Dec. 2011. Official member of the New York Newsies Union.

about the house
http://duanestreetlh.tripod.com/about-the-house.html
About the Lodging House. On March 26, 1874, the Children's Aid Society opened the lodging house at its current address, 9 Duane Street. Located on the Lower East Side, it provides room and board to boys under the age of eighteen who have been orphaned or left home. If you're already living here, they might let you stay after you turn eighteen- or even nineteen- but twenty's really pushing it, you hear? A pass and you won't be let in at all. Please e-mail me your stories as attachments at FlareHiggins@yahoo.com. Has all the general story guidelines- in short, please include the title and author(s), a quick summary, the main character(s), the year(s) it takes place, and any necessary warnings. Here at Duane Street, unfinished stories ARE accepted; please just try your best to update them regularly. I've seen many an old lodging house full of nothing but short beginnings, and it's downright sad! If you like, these warnings can each be used.

about the neighborhood

About the Lower East Side. Or Little Germany. It has since diversified, becoming home to a significant number of Irish and dozens of other ethnicities. According to the famous reformer Jacob Riis, "One may find for the asking an Italian, a German, a French, African, Spanish, Bohemian, Russian, Scandinavian, Jewish, and Chinese colony." There is even a lively Arab community known as Little Syria, centered on Washington Street. Here are a few local spots that a Duane Street newsie would do well to remember.
