Tuesday, May 07, 2013. The Three Triceratops Tuff by Stephen Shaskin. This Dino-fied version of Three Billy Goats Gruff. Was a big hit! The colorful illustrations really popped, the kids were watching closely. Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems. The kids that were familiar with the story of Goldilocks enjoyed this but for the little ones, I think it was too long. They survived though and the giggles at the end let me know the kids enjoyed it. Then we all stood up and did this dinosaur rhyme:.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Let me tell you, FROGS are the way to go with preschoolers. All the stories about frogs are silly and the frogs are always getting into trouble of some sort. Plus, jumping! The Frog with the Big Mouth by Teresa Bateman, Illustrated by Will Terry. City Dog, Country Frog by Mo Willems, Illustrated by Jon J. Muth. By Scott M. Fischer. By this time, the kids are getting pretty wiggly, so I tell them to stand up because I need their help with this book! When Jim tells them all t...

Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Storytime - At the Zoo. Class Two at the Zoo by Julia Jarman. A co-worker had recommended this title to me when I said I was doing a zoo theme. Class Two goes on a field trip and while they teacher and students are looking at the animals in the zoo, the anaconda sneaks out and eats them one by one - until Molly notices and manages to rescue her friends. Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch. From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. On each page is an Eric Carle illustration of some animal an...

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Storytime - friends, big and small. Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. Sweet little story, had a small group of kids today so this worked well since some of the pictures are only half a page. But they seemed interested in what would happen. Little Beauty by Anthony Browne. I wish I knew the sign-language for "I did it, I broke the televison". Might have made the ending a bit more interesting for the kids. But they enjoyed the tale of the monkey and his pet kitten. Tuesday, May 22, 2...

Tuesday, March 08, 2011. Story time - silly animal encounters. Children Make Terrible Pets by Peter Brown. This would probably have been a better lap book than story time book, but since it was the first story I did, the kids paid a lot of attention to Lucy and Squeaker. The older kids in the group really liked it. A Girl and Her Gator by Sean Bryan. Move Over, Rover! This was a HUGE hit! I told the kids they had to help me out and shout "Move over, Rover! At the end of each page. Oh they LOVED it! At th...

Saturday, August 22, 2009. Special areas" and genre collections rant. This is something that has been on my mind for awhile now. I know its is part of the great debate among authors, publishers, booksellers, catalogers, and librarians -where to put the books! The more I work in a library, the less I like genre collections. I know people will say they read "mysteries" but I think everyone's definition of what a mystery is varies. I thought. And what the heck IS science fiction and fantasy anyway? As for o...

Saturday, June 06, 2009. High School Booktalk list. Here are the books I actually talked about at the high school. Let me tell you, I now have these talks memorized after doing them every half-hour for 2 days straight! The Death of Jayson Porter by Jaime Adoff. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong. Pushed as a Twilight Read-Alike). Everybody LOVED this cover, it was usually one of the first books the teens asked to hear about). I think the t...
