Bike rides and gear reviews…. Compass Bicycle Stampede Pass 700c x 32mm Tire. Sharon’s Surly Cross Check. Has been rolling on Grand Bois Cypres 700c x 32mm tires for several years now. In that time she’s only had a few flats despite riding nearly daily to work. She’s not a powerful rider so having supple fast rolling tires is important to her. The Cypres fit the bill well. Since Sharon rides a lot we got the normal weight version. She’ll make them “extra-light” by wearing them out! Mountain bike shoes...

Bike rides and gear reviews…. Chilcotins 2015 Bikepacking Trip – Part 1. Getting silly in the mountains…. The Chilcotins kicked my butt last year. After 2 trips there in the summer of 2014 I had an arm injury that required months off the bike. Talk about a lasting memento! 😦 The bikepacking trip in July 2014 in particular was a sufferfest so I am not sure why I was so eager to go back? Getting loaded up…. All this pushing is making Scott crazy! Day 1 – Tyax to Spruce Lake. No float plane this time….

Bike rides and gear reviews…. Chilcotins 2015 Bikepacking Trip – Part 2. Hard to beat this view…. Day 4 – Over Iron Pass to Lorna Lake. Waking up high on the west side of Iron Pass to a glorious sunrise I was once again blown away by the beauty of our campsite. Simply stunning! Where is my fatbike? We did see a cool bear den where a grizzly had spent the winter as evidenced by the massive amount of fur and animal bones. And we got to ride/slide down some remaining winter snow patches which was fun. Partw...

Bike rides and gear reviews…. Chilcotins 2015 Bikepacking Trip – Part 3. We were not alone out there…. Day 6 – Spruce Lake to Tyax Lodge. Alpine meadow riding…. Cruising south along the east side of Spruce Lake we joined up with Gun Meadows Trail and enjoyed some high speed more or less buff alpine meadow riding. We merged onto Gun Creek Trail and kept dropping through forests and meadows on some amazingly fun curvy singeltrack. Getting dusty in the trees…. Bridges – how civilized! After a good long sect...

Fiberfix Emergency Spoke Review | vikapproved

Bike rides and gear reviews…. Fiberfix Emergency Spoke Review. About the size of some chapstick…. I’ve been hauling around these Fiberfix kevlar emergency spokes. Of course even better than having an emergency spoke with you on tour is not breaking a spoke in the first place! I never have broken a spoke on a bicycle in combat yet. I do that by:. Having a pro bike mechanic I trust build my wheels. Checking the spoke tension myself before trips. Getting wheels tuned up if needed. Tighten to desired tension...

Bike rides and gear reviews…. Vancouver Island Bikepacking Trip Report. Life is tough on the road…. I had intended to do a proper write up on of my recent Vancouver Island bikepacking trip, but I’m busy with work, riding and planning the next trip. There never seems to be time to do a trip report justice. So here is a link to some hasty thoughts I jotted down over at MTBR.com. ATV speed bump…. This entry was posted in Bikepacking.
