Sunday, November 23, 2014. First day in Hanoi. Alley in front of my hotel. I am enjoying Hanoi! It's vibrant and intense and the food is wonderful. I will spend another day here and take the night train south tomorrow to Hue. Beutiful young girls preparing to graduate. Beef steamed in bamboo. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Road to Laos: My last day in Laos

http://oregontolaos.blogspot.com/2014/11/my-last-day-in-laos.html

Friday, November 21, 2014. My last day in Laos. I went for a walk yesterday down a small lane that left the main street in the old part of town and meandered down to the Mekong. Cafes, galleries, a heritage center, Old Luang Prabang houses and an interesting wat made up my journey. 1) Motorcycles and flowers. 2) A public bench - unusual in LP. 3) Entrance to the Heritage Center. 4) A fine example of an old dwelling. 5) Entrance to Wat Xeingmauone. 6) A studio where novices make statues of Buddha.

Road to Laos: Visiting the UXO Center -- some painful truths

http://oregontolaos.blogspot.com/2014/11/visiting-uxo-center-some-painful-truths.html

Monday, November 3, 2014. Visiting the UXO Center - some painful truths. The most significant danger comes from cluster bombs, bombs with a casing designed to split open mid-air and spew 670 small "bombies" over a 500 square metre area. When disturbed, bombies explode and shoot steel bullets designed to kill anyone within a 20m radius. November 6, 2014 at 10:33 AM. I guess we can thank Nixon for the Laos bombing but jfk got us into that war in they first place. November 11, 2014 at 1:25 AM. Trip up the M...

Road to Laos: October 2014

Sunday, October 26, 2014. Lao cooking school on Saturday. Four hours of cooking and you are not seeing dessert! For a bit of perspective - in the tribal villages, most Lao subsist on a diet of sticky rice and dipping sauce. About 60 percent of Lao live in these rural villages. Thursday, October 23, 2014. Dropping off children at the local primary school. Teachers are respected. Most are required to work the first year without pay, however, and salaries are low by Lao standards. Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Christmas comes early in Luang Prebang too. In August I took a walk with my 90 year old dad at the Fern Ridge Wildlife Area. Near Eugene, Oregon. The swallows flitted after unseen flying insects - a beautiful dance in the morning sun. When one of these airborne acrobats stopped and peered at us, I caught a quick photo before he resumed his flight. Links to this post.

Cory in Oregon

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Photo of me at 20. Tomorrow I turn 30 years old. This seems crazy to me in someways, and perfectly mundane in others. I think that if you asked 10 year old, and 20 year old me what I would have accomplished and/or where I would be at 30, those answers would be very different from each other, and what actually happened. 30 things that have happened to me so far in life that are noteworthy/unbelievable/or would have impressed 15 year old me:. 4 I have survived open heart surgery.
