Hong Kong (& Macau) Stuff. Obscure, hidden and off-the-beaten-path places, things, history and film locations in Hong Kong and Macau. Well, not quite goodbye but almost. The stuff that is useful, or was popular, or perhaps needs an update will find new life on the new Blogger site. I’ll try to keep the new version a bit more focused, and so all of the film locations material will eventually wind up on my other site – Hong Kong and Macau Film locations. Hong Kong (& Macau) Stuff. Obscure, hidden and off-the-beaten-path places, things, history and film locations in Hong Kong and Macau. This is just a list of books that I can recommend if, like me, you are more interested in the lesser-known aspects of Hong Kong. It’s by no means a comprehensive list and I will keep adding as and when I find more worth recommending. I’ll keep adding to it as and when. Streets: Exploring Hong Kong Island. Discovering Hong Kong’s Cultural Heritage: HK and Kowloon. No Babylo...

November 2014 – All downhill from here

https://ajh57.wordpress.com/2014/11

All downhill from here. Photography, nature, travel. Photography – the pilgrim’s progress. Moth of the Day. November 28, 2014. November 29, 2014. I was genuinely touched by the messages and warm wishes for my upcoming op. I am told it is routine and low risk and I hope that proves the case. In some ways I am looking forward to it. Thank you all. I appreciate your support very much. I found a moth this morning and I am checking the species. I think it is might be a. November 27, 2014. Our temporary apartm...

May 2015 – All downhill from here

https://ajh57.wordpress.com/2015/05

All downhill from here. Photography, nature, travel. Photography – the pilgrim’s progress. The Woodys – an update. May 31, 2015. The weather forecast was for heavy rain overnight so I did not trap last night. Seeing the Woodys again made up for that. May 29, 2015. The moths continue to trickle in. Thursday was a bumper morning. Friday was a disappointment. Still, I am now on 116 species and June should be more productive. We have a trip to HK planned and that will give us respite from the refurbishment&#...

March 2015 – All downhill from here

All downhill from here. Photography, nature, travel. Photography – the pilgrim’s progress. Summertime and the living is chilly. March 30, 2015. Gershwin clearly never lived in England now that BST is here. The clocks have gone forward one hour but that does not mean the temperatures have risen. Or they may have but the wind still manages to cut through our clothing unless we zip up to the chin. The neck is the vulnerable area. The stabbing gusts seem to funnel down the open collar. The bare branches stil...

Roux In A Wok: September 2012

http://rouxinawok.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. We will be tapping into our New Orleans roots and pull out some good ole Mardi Gras tricks for the rising of the moon. The plan is to meet the community at our beach and watch the full moon rise! This turns into a really fun event for the kids-lots of glow sticks-and picnic food! Keeping track of the children is the hard part-once the sun goes down they all look alike-just 3 foot shadows with glowing necklaces! Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone. Sushi Session @ Sen-Ryo.

Roux In A Wok: August 2013

http://rouxinawok.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Not here in HK. Recently my Facebook feed has inundated with posts about Mommy Wars. Or how hard it is to be a mom these days. I asked a friend back in the states what was going on. She said, "You have no idea. Ever since Pintrerst. Birthday parties are freaking insane. Everything is crazy! Parents go nuts and I just can't keep up.". Hmm, just add this little war to the list of things I do not miss about living in the US at the moment. Sunday, August 18, 2013. Hit Fernando on yo...

Roux In A Wok: April 2012

http://rouxinawok.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. Being an expat, one can expect to inherit things, mostly things with plugs, from other expat friends upon their relocation back home. This week, it was a bread maker that came my way. After a few flops, I'm proud to say I've mastered the machine! Here is my first successful loaf! It's a simple white bread with a medium brown crust. We ate it dipped in balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Delicious. Next.adding fresh rosemary. Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone. Its that time of year!

I’ll settle for that. The year end review also sorts out the good from the drivel. There is a lot of drivel for each good post but it seems this was my top non-technical one from 2014. https://ajh57.wordpress.com/2014/10

All downhill from here. Photography, nature, travel. Photography – the pilgrim’s progress. Honey I shredded my life. October 31, 2014. For reasons that may be revealed in the fullness of time I embarked on a clear out last night. It is an intimidating task. The first thing I opened was an old briefcase that my father gave me when I started work back in the stone age. The man was clearly delusional but this was all I kept from 20 years of feedback. Thanks David. And the rest was shredded. Irretrievabl...
