Mars over Erlangen: September 2011
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 13, 2011. A Nice Place to Visit. This is hard for me to write, because I have mixed feelings. Going home can be very emotional, and this was my first trip back to Chicago in five years. I have to admit, the trip turned out better than I initially anticipated, but it was in many ways stressful. Like Great America (Batman- best roller coaster I've ever ridden),. Michigan to see the boys' cousins,. Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Buckingham Fountain,. The Field Museum,. We enjoyed our ...

Mars over Erlangen: November 2010
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 22, 2010. For the last two weeks, I have been spending four hours every morning in an orientation course, learning about German history, politics and culture. It was the last module I had to take to complete the integration program, which is required if I want to apply for permanent residency. And I do! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Mars over Erlangen: July 2010
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 26, 2010. Finally, the last week of school is here! And summer vacation begins on July 31. It has been an interesting year academically, especially for Philip. He started Realschule this year, and initially, I was relieved that he wasn't going to Gymnasium. I was told that Gymnasium was harder and moved a lot faster than Realschule. If this is true, how come more kids aren't dropping out of Gymnasium? Overall, Philip did better as the year progressed, and so did Alex. I have to admit, I'...

Mars over Erlangen: April 2010
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. On April 18, 2010, Alex, like Philip. Made his first communion. And like Philip, he spent many hours in after-school classes preparing for this big day. But the best part was having his grandparents fly in to celebrate. (They flew into Frankfurt one day before all the airports in Europe closed because of Eyjafjallajökull. Monday, April 12, 2010. Don't Worry." In the Heu Stadl version it's "Don't Worry, Ski Happy," but in German, ski is pronounced "shē," so "Don't Worry, Shē Ha...

Mars over Erlangen: Summer Adventures
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2012/09/summer-adventures.html
Wednesday, September 19, 2012. That said, I would like to write about our summer adventures, starting with our hiking trip to Berchtesgaden. The plan was for the entire family, including Oscar, to hike to a Hütte in the mountains about 10 kilometers from the Königsee. What is a Hütte? Our goal was to reach Kärlingerhaus. According to their website, the route we chose was "keine Schwierigkeiten," meaning "no difficulties" or "easy." It was one of the hardest hikes I have ever done! This area around Erlang...

Mars over Erlangen: September 2013
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 17, 2013. I had intended to keep up with this blog just as a way to document our travels in Europe, but I've basically run out of adjectives to describe the different countries we've visited. There are just so many times that I can stand writing "beautiful, marvelous, interesting and stupendous! Therefore, I will let the photos do the describing, and so I will continue posting photos but on Oscar's blog. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Mars over Erlangen: May 2011
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 07, 2011. During the Osterferien (Easter break), Bob had to work in Potsdam. And we all went with him. I don't think we would have visited Potsdam if it hadn't been for Bob. After all, Potsdam is about 30 kilometers from Berlin, so why stay in Potsdam when you can stay in Berlin. Wrong attitude. From the terrace is a view of what look like Roman ruins, but they were actually built by King Frederick. They make for a nice view, and if one can afford to have his own "ruins". And it had the mos...

Mars over Erlangen: February 2011
http://mars-over-erlangen.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 14, 2011. Right after the Christmas break, I started teaching again. I'm working as a free-lance instructor for the Friedrich Alexander University. Here in Erlangen. My friend, who teaches in the English department, heard that the Sprachenzentrum (Language Center) was looking for someone to teach English classes in the biology department. Since I'm a biologist, she recommended me. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
