Welcome To The Dungeon: May 2012
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Monday, May 28, 2012. Another new game, but with actual progress! So after putting my original game on hold, then abandoning my second game idea due to a complete inability to design it properly right now, I decided to build software to control my 3D printer. Then I got distracted by yet another game idea. This is it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Big Bug Illustration (Tom's blog).

Welcome To The Dungeon: November 2010
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Sunday, November 28, 2010. Tonight, I added the first hints of real gameplay to my game. When you click on a monster, you'll now bring up a quick view of that monster's statistics. In this case, we can see that the monster is called Skeldra (hooray for randomly-generated names! As a side note, being about two months into this project (admittedly only a few hours a week, but still) and only now.

Welcome To The Dungeon: September 2010
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Normally, the player won't directly control monster movement, but it'll be a good step for now to help me make sure that characters can move around in believable ways, that I draw floor squares and tile them as I need to, and so on. Really just the first basic steps to manipulating objects in 3D space. Saturday, September 25, 2010. What's going on here? The longer explan...

Welcome To The Dungeon: One step forward...
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2011/09/one-step-forward.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Friday, September 2, 2011. I'm taking a couple weeks away from game development to focus on a few other things, but I'm hoping that by the end of September I'll be back hard at work. And then I need to start really pushing on this, because I have some very tentative plans to share a booth at next year's PAX with Carl Hume. Developer of Kingdoms of Arcania. Welcome To The Dungeon: Frustration is good for the soul
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2011/12/frustration-is-good-for-soul.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Thursday, December 29, 2011. Frustration is good for the soul. The last couple days have been very educational for me. I've been trying to work on my new game, but I'm relearning that skill in one area does not equate to skill in other areas. In this particular case, ability to write great code does not translate into any kind of ability at all. To design a game. Money, but making my primary income ...

Welcome To The Dungeon: January 2012
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Apparently I am easily distracted. I gave up on the game I was working on in my last post. After three days of farting around with exactly zero progress to show for it, I realised I just am not the kind of person who can design that kind of game right now. At which point my brain promptly designed a totally different game. In the meantime, I'm keeping my new game idea flo...

Welcome To The Dungeon: More delays
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2011/02/more-delays.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Another problem I've been dealing with is a severe lack of direction with the game. I've got a thousand things I could be doing, but none of them were clear winners in the "this needs to be done next" camp and all of them were big and awkward and require a fair bit of time and motivation to tackle. So the net result is that I felt like doing nothing. My goal is still to...

Welcome To The Dungeon: October 2010
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Saturday, October 30, 2010. Things are getting done. The way it's currently being done, it'll always display the whole map the bottom left corner. See, it's a minimap! I've also added an extra room to the default map to be sure the minimap was working the way I wanted it to. Pretty cheesy stuff, but as I've said before, it's all about the little bits of effort accumulating over time. Is going to sta...

Welcome To The Dungeon: The times, they are a'changing...
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2011/10/times-they-are-achanging.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Friday, October 14, 2011. The times, they are a'changing. Yes, I know, I've been silent for months. And I'm sure it will shock people to find out that I've put this game on hold for a little while. I have a good reason! I'm putting Welcome To The Dungeon on hold. so I can build a DIFFERENT game! So this game goes on hold for a little while, and I'm on to a new project. What project is that, you ask?

Welcome To The Dungeon: December 2010
http://welcometothedungeongame.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Welcome To The Dungeon. Triumphs and tribulations of building the game I've been dreaming of for 15 years. Saturday, December 18, 2010. I feel so pretty! A couple visual enhancements since the last screenshot. Today I've added a drop shadow to the damage floaters, I'm drawing them in order from oldest to newest (which I may change in the future), and I've got them offset from each other if you've got more than one damage floater showing at once (like the poor outnumbered hero in this screenshot). Cookie ...
