Project began January 7th 2002 - Completed November 21st 2002. The Parlor Tour Guide. There were so many projects required to completely restore this room. This page is quite lengthy. Use these links to get to the stuff you really want to read about. The 1970's Live. (The Before pictures). Anyway, back to reality. Unfortunately, this room fell victim to the worst of tragedies. I almost have trouble even talking about it, but yes, it's true, this room was directly infected by the 1970's! Oh, the horror!

Because of the fact that we purchased the house in the Spring, one of the first projects I decided to go after was the restoration of the two front screen doors. The screens were falling out of them and it sounded like a logical place to start. Like I said earlier, the project ended up taking a couple months. (This was not good, because it got mighty hot during that time and there was no way to have the front doors open.Yikes! But we are quite pleased with the results.

They started out looking like this:. We are not really sure how many layers of paint there were, but let's just say that it was a major effort just to get them off the door in tact. Next, we had to carefully remove the paint. This was another obstacle because we were afraid to use chemicals because it might damage the soft brass beneath. The solution? Now it was time to start buffing. It took quite a long time to work through the remaining nickel plating and into the brass, but WOW!
