Our Wandering Family: June 2011
http://ourwanderingfamily.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 8 June 2011. Goodbye Vacation - Hello Normalcy! I've always found the transition from a long vacation to normal, everyday life to be a difficult one, and then we added kids to the equation. So you can bet that as our five-week vacation in the States recently neared its end, I gave much thought to how the boys would adjust to a life without daily trips to beaches, pools, theme parks, and restaurants. Fortunately, the answer is surprisingly well! On his own accord! At the wee age of two. A m...

Thursday, 4 November 2010. No Baby, Don't You Sing! Mommies cry. The simplest thing can get us started. A perfect example? At naptime today, as I sang Alexander "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", he sang the first few words with, adding proudly, "Alexander sing it! Too bad. And it really is. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Our Wandering Family: March 2011

Friday, 25 March 2011. Boys Will Be Boys and Mothers Will Be Mothers? My tactics came in handy when Lukas ran into the bathroom this past Tuesday, saying loudly, ". You have to help Alex. He's my brother and he's HURT. So they're still both sneaking into our beds on most nights. So what? Soon enough they'll be doing sleepovers with friends and insisting on sleeping in their own beds, and we'll wonder where the time has gone. Of course, we will have to free up some space in our bed by the end of August...
Our Wandering Family: Where, Oh Where Did January Go?
http://ourwanderingfamily.blogspot.com/2011/02/where-oh-where-did-january-go.html
Friday, 11 February 2011. Where, Oh Where Did January Go? The month of January marked the beginning of Lukas' 6th year, meaning he's now - and this is hard to write - FIVE! Where has the time gone? Where's the baby who flat-out-refused to take any form of bottle - who hated car rides - who smiled nonstop and insisted that someone lay down with him in order for him to go to sleep? Okay, these last two are still pretty prevalent, which we love). Or "Mama has a new baby in her belly! In our latest adventure...

Sunday, 11 March 2012. Baby Grows Teeth, Big Brother Learns to Read. Blogs are like photos. They capture precious moments in time that might otherwise be lost. A child's life is full of incredible firsts: first teeth, first words, first steps, first time reading. but even the most priceless of snapshots get lost in the mile-high pile of photos that we call life. Why I love our blog. Now if only I could get better at writing in it consistently! Lukas' First Reading Adventure! Alex - exhausted after Februa...

Our Wandering Family: Our Global Community - Strength Through Solidarity
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2013/01/the-plague-of-our-planet-imaginary-man.html
Monday, January 14, 2013. Our Global Community - Strength Through Solidarity. It's been a while since I've written, and I know this is a bit harsh of a post after such a long sabbatical, but I feel quite passionate about this topic and would like to share it with you. Here's another recent example of evil that makes my blood boil. A family of 11 elephants was found slaughtered in Kenya. That the Kenyans must get this under control? We are one, WORLD, community. And we can make a difference - by caring.

Our Wandering Family: Losing Photos, and Capturing Memories, in Tuscany
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2014/08/losing-photos-and-capturing-memories-in.html
Thursday, August 21, 2014. Losing Photos, and Capturing Memories, in Tuscany. I woke up this morning thinking, “If I was keeping up with my blog, I’d be better equipped to capture some of the special moments from this trip.”. So, though my entries are sparse lately, there is something I'd like to share. Though it would be equally accurate to say that I may not remember bits and pieces of the trip without those snapshots! 8220;You’re going to be so sad if you don’t see this, Mom.”. But Alex’s tiny l...
Our Wandering Family: Two Children vs. Three - The Great Travel Dilemma
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2011/02/two-children-vs-three-great-travel.html
Sunday, February 13, 2011. Two Children vs. Three - The Great Travel Dilemma. Not surprisingly, my blog postings have been quite infrequent lately. So much has been going through my head! At the end of the day, travel is something we want desperately to share with our children, and where there's a will, there's a way. ". Live the life you've imagined.". Thats wonderful news. I look forward to reading the continuing adventures of the five of you! What a fantastic news. Tobi and boys must be excited. Trave...
Our Wandering Family: Skiing the Dolomites, but Missing the States
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2011/03/skiing-dolomites-but-missing-states.html
Wednesday, March 02, 2011. Skiing the Dolomites, but Missing the States. Strange, when you're homesick, how your country can sometimes haunt you. Here I was, high in the mountains in a gorgeous part of Italy, eating a fabulous Italian meal, when friends proceed to tell me this story:. After they relayed the story, they said, 'Could you IMAGINE that ever happening here? But I always love hearing stories like that from people I meet. Stories of astonishment at how kind Americans can be to total strange...
Our Wandering Family: Our Life in "KW" - The German "Kalendarwochen" Concept - Part 1
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2011/12/our-life-in-kw-german-kalendarwochen.html
Saturday, December 31, 2011. Our Life in "KW" - The German "Kalendarwochen" Concept - Part 1. As I was considering how to make up for my recent absence from the blogosphere, the thought occured to me that I could introduce you to the german "Kalendarwochen", or "Calendar Weeks" concept. Otherwise known as "KW" (pronounced "Ka-Vae"), in this corner of the world they often organize their lives according to the weeks of the year, and what better way to cover all of this missed time? To be continued. :).
Our Wandering Family: A Year Later - Thoughts On Leaving The Netherlands
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2011/02/leaving-netherlands-year-gone-by.html
Tuesday, February 08, 2011. A Year Later - Thoughts On Leaving The Netherlands. It was just over a year ago that we packed the last boxes and headed down to Germany, saying "Tot Ziens" to a country that had overtaken our hearts over the course of two-and-a-half, quite incredible, years. With this being an anniversary of sorts, it was only natural that I begin to reflect on our time there, and especially our likes and dislikes. The architecture and conscientious Dutch window treatments, the local butterfl...
Our Wandering Family: On Traveling, Arriving, and My Countless Faux Pas
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2013/04/on-traveling-arriving-and-my-countless.html
Wednesday, April 17, 2013. On Traveling, Arriving, and My Countless Faux Pas. Albert Einstein once said, "I love to travel, but I hate to arrive.". We are in a state of flux, but this is magnified whilst traveling. Things are changing. We are surrounded with that which is unfamiliar to us. That's the great thing about living abroad. No matter how long you've lived in a place, no matter how integrated you think you are, you're constantly learning. or, on the flip side, constantly "screwing up.". Case in p...
Our Wandering Family: Caldine Calamai and Our New Tuscan Family
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2013/11/caldine-calamai-and-our-new-tuscan.html
Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Caldine Calamai and Our New Tuscan Family. The directions received from our soon-to-be Tuscan hosts were somewhat unnerving. 8220;Turn right after the gas station and head up the road towards the church. The road gets a little narrow at that point, but don’t worry. Our pickup makes it through, so you’ll be fine. But call us from there and we’ll come and meet you to get up the road safely.”. But where WAS this place? The road winded ever-upwards. Still no darn farm house....
Our Wandering Family: A Family of Five in the Berchtesgadener Land
http://www.ourwanderingfamily.org/2011/11/family-of-five-in-berchtesgadener-land.html
Friday, November 04, 2011. A Family of Five in the Berchtesgadener Land. Many months have passed since our last family vacation, thanks to a ruthless combination of my husband working feverishly to complete his MBA and my obsessive nesting and disproportionately large belly. But - I'm happy to announce - not. Apply for her passport! The Alps, incredibly scenic hikes, men in their notorious Lederhosen, women in traditional German dirndls, and - last but not least - a local bakery with fresh-baked breads a...

our wanderfuldays
This picture sums up the awesomeness we had for our post-valentine's day celebration! This year, we opted not to go out on the 14th because of work and family schedules. But, we had a pre valentine's day celebration (a movie date at the newest Uptown Cinema) and a post-valentine's day celebration at the Sky Deck, BayLeaf Intramuros in Manila. There were only a few options from the buffet table, but it surely made our tummies full! Sky Deck, BayLeaf Intramuros, Manila. Budget: P700 - P1000 per person.

Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Re)Learning Life's Lessons. from a Raccoon. It’s 6:30 am. A general feeling of laziness prevails and a task as simple as slipping into a pair of jogging shoes today presents a challenge. Outside, I’m greeted by a thick sheet of unpleasantly humid air, an extension of the grey skies which today have mood ring-like qualities, oddly reflecting my momentary ambivalence. This sunrise along the Indian River will be marginal at best. I turn onto Indian River Drive and park in the fir...
