harvey's blog: mysterious pt. 1
http://harveybayliss.blogspot.com/2010/12/mysterious-pt-1.html
Monday, December 20, 2010. Mysterious pt. 1. Over this Christmas break, I have one goal in mind- to focus on the mystery. What mystery? I do not really know, but I find "it" interesting. Ah yes, perhaps the same "it" I think that brings a painting to life in my last post. Disclaimer- I am writing this to figure out what I am talking about, so I apologize if the writing becomes unorganized.*. I have a list of key words that I keep around that I think describe what I am trying to capture:. What is a painti...

harvey's blog: August 2010
http://harveybayliss.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Well, it has been quite a long time since I last wrote, and so I am just going to try to ease back into it. I think that I have stopped writing because I have been very uncomfortable with my work. The work is ridiculously SLOWWWW! It is easy to be lost, it is easy to be confused. I want to emphasize the fact that increase in disappointment does not mean going backward in t...

I think I have been wrong in thinking that it is bad for the painting when it is not believable (is the Beckmann believable? Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Stuck, but still drawing. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. I have been struggling with the soul o...

harvey's blog: re-think
http://harveybayliss.blogspot.com/2010/12/re-think.html
Monday, December 6, 2010. SoI have finished all the paintings I can for my grad school applications. In the daunting task of writing my artist statements, I have come across a horrifying question: What do I feel when I paint, who am I, why am I painting? Upon banging my head against my desk for the past week I was reminded of something I wrote in 2006 for a class that I still find interesting:. An experience solely to myself is not what I am searching for. I want to become a shaman for my tribesmen.
