Saturday, May 30, 2009. The following model had a somewhat unlucky history. As you may see, it has a pretty uneven paint distribution. What happened is that I dropped it by mistake 4 meters from the balcony (where I spray the undercoat) in the garden below. So wet undercoat mud equals something else than good. On the positive side, I've used it to experiment with some color schemes and painting techniques, the latest being the EYES. How this came to be:. Painted the eye sockets. Painted almost 3 quarters.

I've done the horse color by mixing Chaos Black with Codex grey in many layers, then adding a bit of Fortress Grey and Asurmen Blue to give it a blue-ish tint. The lava was done in a few passses of Mechrite Red, Blood Red, Blazing Orange and Sunburst Yellow. And finally, a better view of the furry shoulders and sword. The shoulders were made by...

Saturday, February 27, 2010. Impasto Technique - Shils and Auerbach. Barbara Kurtz wrote an email to me on Thursday asking about comparisons between Stuart Shils work and Frank Auerback's. I think it's interesting that Barbara is drawing a correlation between the two painters and am curious to ask her how she relates the two to one another. I think Shils painting surface, though perhaps similar to Auerbach in that the paint is applied thickly, is quite different. I have attached here an example of each -.
