My Favorite Books…. The Big Picture →. December 31, 2009 · 11:11 am. I held a nook ereader the other day. It felt sleek and comfortable and right… and somehow like someone else’s child. Beautiful, sure, but not like my own. For the wonder of the nook to me is not what it can. But in what words and information it will. That’s what makes it personal. 8220;That’s not your gift. Newer posts →. November 1, 2009 · 1:19 am. About 10 years ago I drove my friend Suzanne and her father to the hospital in Togo, West Africa. I watched, helpless, as Suzanne dropped handfuls of coins on the desk of the admitting nurse. She had to prepay for a week of care in order for her father to receive treatment. She needn’t have bothered. Within the hour, he was dead. An urge to write was born in Africa. This week, so many others are following that same urge. LittWorld. The Green Tomato Chronicles.

Clay Inkpot: September 2013
http://clayinkpot.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 12, 2013. The numbers are out. The study has spoken. And, once again, Togo has been named the least happy country in the world by the Earth Institute. But, then, it wasn't my home. When the elections were corrupt and the UN threw its hands in the air and left, I wished for better times. Then I filled out my own absentee ballot and mailed it back to the USA. It's personal to me, this idea that Togo is the least happy place on earth. After all, we went there to spread joy and peace ...

Wednesday, February 13, 2013. If I were a rich man. Of all Tevye's dreams of becoming rich- and he had a vivid imagination- his most precious wish was to be rich enough to sit in the synagogue and pray, to discuss the holy books with learned men instead of scratching a living for his family out of the dirt of impoverished Russia. Here's what I did hear:. The battle of Revelation was not close. In fact, it was over before it started. The blood on the battlefield was the blood of the lamb.

Saturday, November 23, 2013. A Season of Thanks, Day 23. I didn't venture far from home today, but my daughter made a 900 mile trek across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico in the snow and freezing rain. Tonight she was safely in her Nana's kitchen making cookies. Letting your kids grow up is not for cowards. Tonight I am thankful for traveling mercies for my girl. Yesterday was a Eustace Scrubb kind of day. Do you remember Eustace? He's the selfish brat of a hero who was sucked into Narnia with his cousins, hopeless saps all. First Mom's health, then my husband's job. Or was it the other way around? I can't recall. I feel the all-at-onceness of it. Jesus dug his claws into my thickene...

Thursday, November 21, 2013. A Season of Thanks, Day 21. There's an article in the Huffington Post. This week about boring men and the women who live with them. I am lucky enough to be married to a boring man. I don't have an uber romantic story of how he proposed to me or a chunky diamond ring to remind me. But here's what he did do. He sold his camera so I could fly to his hometown to meet his family. He rubs my shoulders every time I set myself in front of him. And when I see him in a crowd, he still ...

The mountain ridge rises to meet us as our pilot gently sets his skids on the mossy turf. We hug and cry and hug some more. The helicopter returns for us. Wednesday, October 17, 2012. A Chance to Do Good. I've avoided sharing Ryan's story here since he's been doing such a good job of sharing it himself. It is, after all, his story. But I've got to admit, despite the unfairness of death, miracles large and small have spawned from Ryan's story. A community rallies around the one who expected to be the giver. A guy who wanted nothing to do with Jesus finds him through Ryan. The stories of sickness, fear, hope, and life are shared around the world. Story Time ...

Sunday, November 24, 2013. A Season of Thanks, Day 24. Tonight it's all I can do to thank God his mercies are new every morning. Some days I'm not the person I ought to be. Some days I see my impatience, my weakness, my shortfalls clearer than anything. Some days I want to crawl in a hole. But in the morning I get the chance to start again. Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Friday, November 22, 2013.

Thursday, January 03, 2013. Gardenias in the Frost. Do you remember where you were a year ago today? Can you think back over the accomplishments, activities, struggles and triumphs of the past year with any kind of clarity? If I learned anything this year, it was to seize the day, to suck what marrow I can from life. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is but a breath, the gift of a moment that cannot last. If I care about these little plants, how much more does their maker who clothes them in splendor?

October 20, 2014. Love the colors of fall in Ohio. You can’t help but love fall in Ohio! The beautiful colors are everywhere, and you just wish it could stay this way all the way to spring and just skip winter altogether. I am really appreciating all the beauty of fall this year more than ever. Last fall was a really rough time for me, as I spent most of September and October in and out of the hospital, not feeling very well at all most of the time…not fun! They have this nice area for a great photo op 🙂.

The best stories never end. Patty Slack, Author. WIth initials like P.S., I had to be a writer. Stories of Home and Hope. Deep inside each of us is a longing for that one place we can feel completely at home. It’s the place where we know how everything is done and where everything belongs. It is where we can wear our rattiest, comfiest pajamas and come out of the bedroom without our makeup on. At home, we can say idiotic things and know we will still be loved.
