Iowa Girl on the Go. An Iowa travel and discoveries blog. Yes, please / No, thanks. Driving RAGBRAI XLIII: Day 2. Posted July 3, 2015. Here we go on Day 2 of the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa! We left off in Webster City, so the first stop this morning is Boondocks. Not so much a town as a truck stop/motel next to Interstate 35. Alden city leaders really seem to be into the swing of RAGBRAI already, even though the ride doesn’t start for nearly three weeks. We saw signs ...

In Progress: Just for fun
http://pearsonmetalart.blogspot.com/2009/08/just-for-fun.html
Sunday, August 16, 2009. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Have you ever looked at metal art and wondered how it was made? I expect most of you would say no. I hope to do a small part to change that. There are many great metal artists in the world, so I have to take my metal work the extra step or two to get noticed, hopefully. I will be adding pictures of my work as it progresses from one stage to another. You can visit the Gallery on my website to see how other works were created. Great sites to visit.

In Progress: Moose For Moose
http://pearsonmetalart.blogspot.com/2009/12/moose-for-moose_22.html
Tuesday, December 22, 2009. I didn't have any bar stock on hand of the diameter I needed. So I inserted a 1/4' bar inside of a tube, welded the two together and ground the ends off to make them look like they were made from bar stock. Wrapping 1/8" fill rod material around the outer tube, I cut them into pcs. to make the eye lids. Finally tack welding these into position. February 25, 2010 at 12:00 PM. Friday, August 21, 2009. These pieces were shaped on an anvil. Welded from behind because the material doesn't wrap all the way around. Since the back will be up against rock above a fireplace, a shaped piece will be added behind after welding. Steve and Deb Bentz, Owners of Mayfly Lodge, located in Vernon County in southwest Wisconsin, asked me to build a replica of their lodge logo, a Mayfly. Although a challenge, I accecpted. It just has to be BIG. Maximum length, 63". Sunday, August 16, 2009.
