The stretching area is on your right just as you start up the trail (behind a kiosk that is opposite the drinking fountain). There are some stretching guidelines posted on the back of the kiosk. This is a great place to start and/or end your walk, hike, or run. Recently, people have been using this area for bodyweight workouts.

A Service Of Pilot Butte Summit Seekers. PILOT BUTTE STATE PARK. ROAD TRAIL (0.9 miles each way, 480 feet elevation):. Some people sit on the concrete retaining wall on the uphill side of the road to rest and/or take in the view. Keep an eye out for cars if you do this. Consider combining this trail with the Nature Trail to make a loop to the top and back. If you want to get a full mile in each way, consider walking around the top a couple of times. Each time around the top is about 1/8th of a mile.

While this trail has less elevation gain and loss, it also has the steepest section of trail in the park. If you have trouble going down steep trails, it may be best to travel counter clockwise. If you like going down steep trails, then clockwise might be your best option.

As you near the Butte, the first sign will direct you to the trailhead parking area. Make this turn if you don't plan on driving to the top. If you do want to drive to the top, continue heading West around the Butte until you see the brown sign directing you to the Summit Road. Closed late Fall through early Spring).
