Improving aviation safety one step at a time. It’s ski season again! No extra rating or endorsement needed! Whenever your instructor says you can take the plane, you can go exploring by yourself. I don’t want to spoil all the fun of learning to ski fly, but I will leave you with a couple of thoughts:. 1 Beware of Overflow. It can also have other adverse effects, such as slowing your airplane enough it can no longer take off again for that go-around, so beware of overflow. Well it starts by stopping the e...

Improving aviation safety one step at a time. We are almost to 2012, which means half of us are looking at needing a Flight Review in the coming year. Some pilots never consider the fact that a checkride for a pilot certificate counts as a Flight Review. So here is a thought, all of you who need Flight Reviews this year, go out and get a new rating instead! This entry was posted on Friday, December 30th, 2011 at 7:57 PM and is filed under Airplanes. Improving aviation safety one step at a time. I’m finally back! Sorry everyone, I’ve been busy with students, and they come first before my blog. Hopefully I have my schedule calmed down enough now that I can update on occasion. This time’s topic happens to be one that I put a lot of emphasis into, Crosswind Approaches. Using a slip to combat a crosswind on final. Using a crab to combat a crosswind on final. This entry was posted on Thursday, August 4th, 2011 at 8:26 PM and is filed under Airplanes.

Improving aviation safety one step at a time. Take-off and Landing Distance. So we all remember the days of determining take-off and landing distance when we were working on our initial certificate, but how many of you have used that since? Not only how many have used it since, but how many have actually checked their own take-off and landing distance in the airplane(s) that they typically fly? 2 Determine some distance measurement that you can use to get at least a rough estimate of your take-off and la...

Improving aviation safety one step at a time. April 21, 2011. Is that extra smooth landing eluding you recently? Keep trying everything you can think of but it is just not as good as you want it to be? Here is what I want you to try:. 1: When you get into your aircraft next time, take a little extra time to position your seat perfectly. 4: Once you have begun your round-out, you should not be looking at your touchdown point any longer, and should choose a point down the runway. April 21, 2011. At a FAA s...

Improving aviation safety one step at a time. April 6, 2012. I can’t tell you how many times I have nearly gotten into someone else’s airplane with them and they were either over gross, or far outside their CG limitations. Their reply is always simply, “I got here ok didn’t I? 8221; The problem with this is how many times do you test your engine out performance, or that 3.8G limit for a normal category aircraft while cruising around?
