My musings on life, food and baking. Thursday, 25 November 2010. I'm hoping that there is some kind of unspoken cake decorators rule 'Thou shalt drop one cake to be a true decorator.' Now the initiation is complete. So, actually I am now part of some kind of inner sanctum of decorators and got off quite lightly as at least it wasn't a multi tiered wedding cake. My musings on life, food and baking. Thursday, 3 February 2011. As I sit here on the train, I feel slightly crestfallen. I have just discovered that it's perfectly acceptable in the cake decorating community to buy mass produced cakes in. Eh what! If I was getting married and paying hundreds of pounds for my dream cake, I would be pretty gutted to find this out. I really hope I'm not on my own here, I surely can't be. My musings on life, food and baking. Saturday, 23 October 2010. Unfortunately I am not a naturally thin person, I love cooking and eating. For me the torture of not being able to enjoy delicious, sinful food is far worse than not being a perfect size 8. But when my clothes stop being comfortable I have to take heed. So, at the moment I am not dieting but trying to be careful. Well, I was. Adapted from Edinburgh's own Sue Lawrence, her Book of Baking is one of my favourites). 100g golden granulated sugar.

My musings on life, food and baking. Monday, 13 December 2010. Ah, Christmas is coming. I took one of my fruit cakes out from storage yesterday and the sweet, fruity, spicy smell let me know that festive times would soon be upon us. The joy! I love Christmas and all that accompanies it. As a lover of food and baking, I really feel like I am in my element at this time of year. This is an easy, delicious recipe. Make sure to use the best eggs you can find, preferably organic. 175g golden caster sugar.
