And then the Army Corps of Engineers also changed their plans by increasing the morning pulse on the Caney from 9AM - 11AM to 9AM - 2PM. So we changed plans yet again and got on the water later. After taking care of introductions and loading up the two boats, it was decided by the Clift men that there would be a little friendly competition between father and sons. Our focus was on the shoals and deep slots near rocky banks between the I-40 bridges that dot this stretch of river.The areas between the bridges have typically been better for me than fishing near the actual pilings. Friday, June 3, 2011. Caney Fork Scratches 13-Year Itch. I got out on Memorial Day with fellow guide David Perry and we set about to seeing what the Caney's trout were up to, with low flows and the Hyde Skiff back in play. Something else was in the mix that hasn't been around these parts since thirteen years ago, and it was good to see it and experience it firsthand.
