Camp Salerno 2009: April 2009
http://campsalerno2009.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 26, 2009. It continues to amaze me how fast the weeks pass. This week was much like the last. We spent much of it in the hospital taking care of our patients. Our free time was spent reading, watching, movies, working out, or napping. Dr D’s office sent him a Napoleon Dynamite wig. We each took turns wearing it (picture # 1). Gosh…. As I have mentioned before, the base has several training facilities. We have used the “trauma” mannequins to help teach resuscitation to our medics. He went to...

Camp Salerno 2009: Parting...
http://campsalerno2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/today-we-discharged-patient-with-heart.html
Sunday, May 24, 2009. Today we discharged the patient with the heart injury. It’s amazing what the body is able to go through and recover from. He is doing very well. I took this picture with him this morning (picture # 1). This is B, one of the army special forces guys out of Ohio. This is a picture Dr. D and I took earlier with H, one of the “dustoff” flight medics. This picture is of DP, a flight medic, and myself the day before I left. W, me, B, and G in front of a Blackhawk. May 25, 2009 at 5:31 PM.

Camp Salerno 2009: Hearts and Minds

Saturday, May 16, 2009. WARNING: This blog entry contains some graphic surgical images that may be inappropriate for some viewers. Please proceed at your own risk.* *. The pictures of areas off base were given to me by Jeff, a special forces medic. I don't get off the base, so I really have no clue as to what my surroundings look like. He graciously gave me these photos. Men in a field.I think it looks like a postcard). All the way across). Is the best solution I have heard. As long as these people h...

Camp Salerno 2009: Toby Keith
http://campsalerno2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/toby-keith.html
Sunday, May 3, 2009. May 3, 2009 at 4:42 PM. I (Erica) was just listening this morning on my little Southern Country station that I have become so fond of how Toby Keith flew around to even the smallest of bases and performed :) He's got a few made-for-TV movies on the CMT station you can rent when you get home! You are doing great things down there and we are proud of you. Love, The Bizzles. May 3, 2009 at 7:47 PM. I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. May 7, 2009 at 1:49 PM.

Camp Salerno 2009: February 2009
http://campsalerno2009.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 22, 2009. Because this base is smaller, everything is announced over a PA system (picture #1). Much like the movie and TV show MASH, all sorts of announcements occur. We are told about incoming traumas, at which point the trauma teams report to the EMT. Depending on how many casualties are expected will determine how many people show up. Additionally, we are given warnings about possible attacks, etc. Don’t worry, so far we have only had training exercises. I’ll be shipping them ho...
