Free wood – goatboy's woodshop
https://goatboyswoodshop.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/free-wood
Yesterday, my brother decided to borrow my chainsaw and prune the hell out of a willow tree. I asked if I could have a couple of the logs. Coincidentally, I needed to slightly prune a camellia tree yesterday, as it was interfering with a fence panel. Here are the results. The willow is on the left, the camellia on the right. It might be good for turning tool handles, or perhaps for inlay. Any suggestions? Click to share on Google (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Email (Addr...

I need your advice – goatboy's woodshop
https://goatboyswoodshop.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/i-need-your-advice
I need your advice. That far from being a problem, this camber actually strengthens the cutting edge, supporting it and lengthening the time between sharpenings. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it certainly doesn’t seem to have a negative effect. Also, what angle do you sharpen them at? Thanks everyone. Hopefully I’ll see you in the comments. The Funeral Chair Part One – Dimensioning and Joinery. Provided an ideal suggestion in the form of The Funeral Chair. As I mentioned in my last post, I am sure that seasoned woodworkers would find this project to be quite simple, but bear in mind that I am a noob. The joinery for the chair frame came next. This consisted of square mortise and tenons for the stretchers on the front legs, mortise and tenons for the seat back and notches for the back stretcher. There were more holes needed for the h...Click...

The Funeral Chair Part Two – Finish and Glue Up – goatboy's woodshop

The Funeral Chair Part Two – Finish and Glue Up. With all the parts now essentially completed it was time to sand them down ready for pre-finishing. On a project like this it is far easier to finish the components before final assembly. The finish I used for this project was a homemade oil/varnish concoction. Taking advice from various online sources I mixed boiled linseed oil, polyurethane varnish and white spirit (mineral spirits in the US) in equal parts. I might leave it for a little while…. Pork Is My Kryptonite
Pork Is My Kryptonite. Sunday, September 30, 2007. I've developed an intolerable food intolerance. So I've either become allergic to pork or I'm turning Jewish. For some unknown reason that may or may not be directly linked to Tetragrammaton, I've seemingly developed an intolerance to the tastiest of meats: my friend of thirty-two years, PORK. Some may even suggest a different explanation. An explanation that's definitely not kosher:. Pork Is My Kryptonite. So now I'm covered in Cortaid, waiting for the ...
