Groups - Where art thou focus? - The Primary Teacher's Blog
http://www.primary1teacher.com/1/post/2014/10/groups-where-art-thou-focus.html
The Primary Teacher's Blog. Follow or tweet me! Groups - Where art thou focus? I've been thinking recently about the way I use focus groups in my teaching. I've been thinking about the way I give quality time to each and every child and the way in which I get to know my pupils at the start of the year. I came to the conclusion that it was time for focus groups to take a ride - I'll explain why. In every lesson, the whole class will be my focus group. Sometimes it's impossible to spend more time with indi...

The Primary Teacher's Blog. Follow or tweet me! Britishness - Liberté, égalité, fraternité. There has been a significant amount of political rhetoric surrounding the topic of citizenship, such words as 'Britishness' and 'civic nationalism' being prime examples. I wanted to use this opportunity to dicuss a topic that will, no doubt, continue to be 'hot' for sometime. The Teachers' Standards states for teachers to ensure they are:. The Primary Teacher's Blog. Follow or tweet me! This blog has come about because this September the class I received have had the most varied styles of teaching I can think of. I have them now in Year 5. Their Year 4 teacher was your classic, 'Knowledge is everywhere, collaborative, pupil freedom, self-taught, learning spaces, teacher sitting with pupils', I would say a Robin Williams reincarnate. Their Year 3 teacher was a cross between Mr Smith in. Mostly geriatric traditionalists drinking out of Miss ...

Numeracy, Quadratics and Trying to teach them (NQT). Aiming for one more Ahhh I get it, Miss. every day. Why are you here? NQT (Week 1): Those first lessons. →. August 30, 2014. This life was wonderful, care-free and a lot of fun. But as the summer rolled on, I found myself yearning for some kind of purpose. I started planning for my GCSE classes, getting my creative head on for classroom display ideas and generally figuring out how to play the first couple of lesson with my various groups. It came in wa...

A Primary Head Teacher's Point of View. The primary head's blog. You’re only as good as the sum of your parts. Rank me, Yank me. ». True Ofsted conversations #2. June 8, 2015. Warning: like peeling away the layers of an onion, the results of talking to Ofsted can make you cry. We all know communities like yours. Yes, s...

December 9, 2013. Back to the drawing board I went. Trying desperately to figure out where I had gone so drastically wrong. What had worked a treat one day had epically failed the next. February 17, 2014. 8216;Are you a mathematician, or a teacher? This was the opening question asked to a captive audience by a guest speaker on my secondary mathematics PGCE course. Small changes can make a big difference! Why I wanted to be responsible for Pupil Premium at my school. Apologies in advance. The post that I’m writing is close to my heart and too much emotion might creep in but I think that this is a post worth writing…. 8220;Girls, I’ve got the end of year photo to give to you all. If your parents have paid for a copy, please raise your hand and I’ll give you your copy.”. My tutor begins handing out the photos: she arrives at me. 8220;Look at you! Where are you going?

Poor behaviour – It’s got to change but how? December 16, 2013. Why are much poorer countries such as Vietnam leaping ahead of us? Monday, 20 April 2015. Our Katie Morag topic went very well and primary 1 worked so hard. We practised our technology skills. We had to be very careful when we were using the saws. We put the wood into the vice and tightened it to hold it still. It was a little bit tricky to saw through the wood but we persevered. We designed a sail for our model and then our boats were complete. We used clay to make model lighthouses. We also completed some factual writing about lighthouses. Our topic was lots of fun, b...
