DigiWeaving: December 2008
http://digiweaving.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 26, 2008. Guatemala 6 - Tikal. Ep here and this pyramid is no exception. However, a decent wooden staircase has been built along one side, allowing for a safe way to access the top. What a view! I would highly recommend a trip to Guatemala to anyone who is interested in fabric, weaving, indigenous people, the jungle. oh, to just about everyone who is open to an adventure! Thursday, December 25, 2008. We had a wonderful Christmas with everyone and hope we'll see all our friends and loved ...

Saturday, March 14, 2009. Rough and Calm Waters. Last week, I headed up North to Victoria BC with Ryan's Jr High band. We had to meet at the school at 5:30 am, to get to Seattle in time to take off on the Victoria Clipper at 8. The wind was blowing as we started sailing and they announced that they were selling seasickness medicine for 25 cents. and they recommended we take it! We then made it back to the Clipper and headed home, arriving back at 8:30 pm. a long day indeed! Peggy O-Heron Fiber Artist.

DigiWeaving: Guatemala 3- The Road to Chichicastenango
http://digiweaving.blogspot.com/2008/12/guatemala-3-road-to-chichicastenango.html
Monday, December 22, 2008. Guatemala 3- The Road to Chichicastenango. The "chicken buses" are the local transportation. Typically painted. Very brightly, they're also called the killer red tomatos. The name "chicken bus" refers to both the fact that the locals carry everything, including livestock, on the bus and also that the wild drivers "play chicken" and take all sorts of risks (such as taking this shortcut! We saw a few women working on their back-strap looms, weaving in front of their homes. Called...

DigiWeaving: Guatemala 4 - Chichicastenango
http://digiweaving.blogspot.com/2008/12/guatemala-4-chichicastenango.html
Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Guatemala 4 - Chichicastenango. The market in Chichi was so full of life and color! Unfortunately, Mom and some of the other women on the tour came down with a little stomach bug, so they hung out in the rooms of the inn we stayed at. The rooms were interesting. each with fireplaces rather than central heating, so they were pretty cool in temperature at 10,000 ft. I joined Susan and Lucy, the two other WA state womain who are in Lorraine Tor. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

DigiWeaving: Guatemala 5 - Lake Atitlan
http://digiweaving.blogspot.com/2008/12/guatemala-5-lake-atitlan.html
Thursday, December 25, 2008. Guatemala 5 - Lake Atitlan. Eduardo brought us up to a mud and daub hut which was basically sticks held together with hardened earth. There was a woman weaving on a backstrap loom there who was 70 years old. her 75 year old husband joined us later and let us know. They've been married 60 years! We then toured a rather large school where we delivered the Spanish childre. D to be a coffin and a life-side Jesus bearing the cross, which each could be carried in parades. After...

DigiWeaving: Guatemala Textile Tour 2
http://digiweaving.blogspot.com/2008/12/guatemala-textile-tour-2.html
Monday, December 22, 2008. Guatemala Textile Tour 2. After touring the coffee plantation, we drove to a jade factory. Guatemala is one of the few places in the world where they have lilac jade (as well as the standard green.) They showed how they cut and polish the jade and took us through an interesting museum of jade artifacts found in Mayan sites and tombs. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
