Monday, 30 March 2015. For the past three months we've had the immense good fortune to have had Icelandic trombonist Sigrún Jónsdóttir. Living at the project and giving brass lessons to the children three times a week. As well as being a top-flight professional trombonist (she's already done a world tour with Björk and leaves us to do a tour of Germany as a solo artist and then another world tour with Icelandic indie folk pop band Of Monsters and Men. Tuesday, 26 May 2015. Yesterday the children said goodbye to Paul-Edouard Gardelle, French singer and guitarist and Favela Brass teacher since 2014. Paul lived down the road in the favela and is now moving back to his home town of Toulouse. As well as giving singing and percussion lessons with the kids, Paul helped us out lots at the Curry Clube. Wednesday, 15 October 2014. Favela Brass at Centro Cultural Carioca. On Saturday the children played at the Carioca Culture Centre. In Rio city centre alongside the drumming group Balança mas Não Cai. It was the first time they had played outside the favela. The trombone player is 18 year-old British musician Rowena Smith, who is living in the favela and teaching the children on a voluntary basis for the next six weeks. Welcome to the project, Rowena! To play the British national anthem at their party to celebrate the Queen's birthday tomorrow, together with a choir from The British School Rio de Janeiro.
