Views, news and commentary on publishing and more. Monday, 31 March 2008. Talk, talk, talk. First off, apologies for the blog silence. I've started an exciting new job (more on which will follow). Secondly, I was interested and impressed with a recent post on Jon Reed's eponymous Publishing Talk. Blog In it, he showcases a dazzling style in a piece written for The Deal. The official magazine for the London Book Fair. There's a shameless plug for you Jon! Read the post on the Publishing Talk blog. Keep it...

So no surprise that Book2Book booktrade info. Site reports on an Earth Times. Is to be published in book form there. The Book2Book article states:. When begun, Wikipedia was perceived as making books redundant, with no future for printed encyclopedias.". The Earth Times piece goes on to say:. While the publisher has come up with ...

Views, news and commentary on publishing and more. Tuesday, 8 April 2008. Something funny happened on the train to work. A conversation overhead this morning on the train to work between a father and his son, both laden down with suitcases, on their way to an Easter holiday:. Little boy: "Gosh, it's very crowded, isn't it Daddy? Father: "Yes it is, isn't it? Do you know that if you work hard, and then go to university, you can look forward to doing this for forty years.". Publishing Results: Publisher on the run #2...

http://publishingresults.blogspot.com/2008/04/publisher-on-run-2.html

Views, news and commentary on publishing and more. Wednesday, 16 April 2008. Publisher on the run #2. It's been a week of publishers dashing around - in every sense. Sunday was the Flora London Marathon. A defining event for the capital. And coming in at 4 hours and 58 minutes was Fiona Woodruffe-Peacock, International Sales Manager at Continuum. You would think that come Monday morning, she would be completely knackered, but there she was, bright and early at the London Book Fair. Subscribe in a reader.

Views, news and commentary on publishing and more. Tuesday, 30 October 2007. In the depths of the RSA. So I'm sat here, logged on to a PC in the depths of that most venerable institutions, the RSA. My friend and colleague Jon Reed. Recommended that I become a Fellow. Earlier this year. I was reluctant at first, thinking it was some old fuddy-duddy club, without the glam clientele of The Groucho. Or the opening hours of a decent wine bar. I teach on City University's MA in Publishing Studies. Statisticall...

Spacmonstrous: A Struggle With Internets.: November 2010

http://spacmonster.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Originally uploaded by Spacmonster. I actually picked some tomatoes at the weekend. Which is odd given that the garden looked like this. Still, a bit of ice is supposed to be good for purple sprouting broccoli, which is what we've got in at the moment. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow me on Twitter. Spacmonstrous: A Struggle With Internets.: Growing stuff and things

http://spacmonster.blogspot.com/2010/05/growing-stuff-and-things.html

Friday, May 14, 2010. Growing stuff and things. So the raised beds. Are in, various planters are made and filled with soil and other nice things, and we are now growing a whole bunch of stuff and things in our garden. We're making it up as we go along a little bit, but it is still nice to have stuff in there. Ran out of room in the raised beds so had to make some planters out of things. Oh - and we re-painted a wall so everything looks nice. Next, adding a new barbecue! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Spacmonstrous: A Struggle With Internets.: Prints for the Lounge

http://spacmonster.blogspot.com/2010/01/prints-for-lounge.html

Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Prints for the Lounge. House decoration is very nearly done. So much so that rather than thinking about tearing down wallpaper and filling holes or making things out of wood and other things, we're now thinking about putting up pictures. So I made some art for the lounge, we have a green theme going on, so some trees were in order. This one is from closer to home - the Bluebell Woods:. And this one is from a bit further afield - the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia.

Spacmonstrous: A Struggle With Internets.: Raised beds, stage two

http://spacmonster.blogspot.com/2010/02/raised-beds-stage-two.html

Monday, February 22, 2010. Raised beds, stage two. Originally uploaded by Spacmonster. Here they are then, ready to be filled up. We successfully sunk them below the level of the gravel and started the process of filling them with a mix of compost and tompsoil. Mark out the holes and dig them (a foot deep for our fence posts). Attempt to put frame into holes. Realise holes are in wrong place. Make them even bigger. Give up and whack the whole thing with the heavy end of a pick axe until it is level!

Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Artists, comic book creators, toy designers, and celebrity fans are getting out their markers, paint brushes and glue guns to transform blank Mighty Muggs into one-of-a-kind Star Wars art to be auctioned by The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Spacmonstrous: A Struggle With Internets.: Making some raised beds at Le Braconnier Cottage

http://spacmonster.blogspot.com/2010/02/making-some-raised-beds-at-le.html

Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Making some raised beds at Le Braconnier Cottage. Originally uploaded by Spacmonster. Major project time, we're making some raised beds in the garden to grow some veg. The basic idea is to use the bit at the end of the garden, which gets a fair bit of light in the afternoon. Also means that we can put off digging up the patio for a while! Our design was fool proof - gravel boards and fence posts screwed together into two boxes (joined together in the middle).

Getting Published

A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Why I recommend against using iUniverse. I am absolutely torn on the subject of iUniverse. In the end I must recommend against. Using them, and that's a real shame, because I've met many talented and dedicated people there. The good folks at iUniverse seem to outnumber the bad by a factor of two or three to one, so it seems totally unfair to judge iUniverse poorly. You might read my earlier post. Intere...

A light, seen through the thick of the jungle. One of the main perspectives of the PUBS vs. DoJ case is that it is the consumers who are losing when e-book prices are fixed. It is difficult to imagine that there are benefits other than economic for consumers but ultimately there is a larger conflict at hand when discussing the price fix dilemma. This is one of the ideas asserted by an article found in The Economist. As the backlash continues from the lawsuit filed by the Justice Department. Although curr...
