September 1, 2016. July 26, 2015. The cacti on our the deck all bloomed with prickly precision earlier this month. Photo by Mike Sweeney/ 2015. Monica’s cultivated quite a cactus crop over the years. And the work she’s put into them recently paid off. Earlier this month, all seven of her cacti blossomed simultaneously. That was a first. We woke up, and there they were on the deck, in full flower. Some looked like chrysanthemums, others were solitary spikes. Sadly, the show lasted but a day.
