A stranger in a foreign land: October 2011

http://rachelbarnes-livinginaforeignland.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 30, 2011. A day out in autumnal sunshine. This weekend is the start of my Dad's birthday celebrations. A mature young age of 60! And so with the family all together, we set off for another exploration, and this time the direction took us further into the north. With the car full of picnic food, coats and wellies, we set off! After a beautiful walk, we settled down to our picnic and let the children run wild around the fields. A day to remember. Beautiful colours of autumn. Also this week,...

A stranger in a foreign land: March 2011

http://rachelbarnes-livinginaforeignland.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 28, 2011. When I come to sit down and write my blog, I never know 'where' or 'how' to start. Usually by the time I've started writing what I'm inspired to write, my beginning paragraph has changed 3 or 4 times. This morning is no different. This weekend Shkodera had a Folk Festival up in the castle ruins. Local people dress up in traditional costumes and recreate moments in history through dance, song or poetry. Picnicking unders the Castle ruins. Have a good week. Thursday, March 24, 2011.

Sunday, February 27, 2011. One thing that you notice here in Greece are the wild dogs that roam the streets and beaches! When we went walking on Saturday, almost instantly we were surrounded by dogs. But in particularly, a mother and her puppies, tagging along behind! Instantly, Oliver was captivated! But the mother - only being young herself - was strong and full of energy, and managed to push oliver over in the excitement of catching drift wood we threw! Oliver and his new friend! The next week we'll b...

A stranger in a foreign land: January

http://rachelbarnes-livinginaforeignland.blogspot.com/2012/01/january.html

Sunday, January 22, 2012. Well, it's been a while since I updated my comings and goings. Since Christmas life has really been on the road. Travelling back from Albania for Christmas with my Family. Then back on the road for New Year in Istanbul. Last week, we took Sunday off, and drove to the Greek mountains for some fun in the snow! Jamie took on the challenge of cooking us up some Turkish tea in the snow! This is the Anthropology life. Or a life following the Anthropologist! Rations for the driver!

If you look closely you can see a little frog - He's going-a-courting!

The Vegan Project

Tuesday, January 22, 2013. What does it mean to be a vegan? It is the three week mark since I embarked on this project. I decided that before I consume any animal products today or thereafter I would put a closing remark down. I feel as though I have learned a thing or two during this three weeks of restrictive eating. Here are some of the highlights:. 1 Thai curries usually come pre-mixed with fish sauce. 2 Many people do not know what the word "vegan" means. 7 When in doubt I just didn't buy the product.

To Eliminate Sugar Project. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. What does it mean to eat without consuming sugar? Almost none, unless it's a salad. And if you happen to just want one of those raw foods salads, you can't have any salad dressing. Na ah. Almost all of the commercially available restaurant chosen dressings contain sugar. For taste, right? So restaurants are out. So are common snack foods. Candy. Energy bars. Drinks. Etc. Sugar. Sugar. And Sugar. After drastically (not that I was eating so much suga...
