What is Usher Syndrome? I’ve always wondered, what caused my deafness. This question was answered in 2006 when I was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, a disease that causes deafness, blindness, and balance issues. In that moment, I finally understood why I was deaf, but I did not know that I would go blind someday. It’s been a difficult fact to accept because I have so many things I want to do with my life. Jessica wrote a poem about living with Usher Syndrome for her high school English class:.
