Let's get lost. The British cup of tea is called for around ten times a day in our house. At least, it seems that way. I caught a broadcast on the TV where red coats and black hats marched in celebration of the Queen shuffling onto her ninetieth year; and I’m jealously locking eyes with twitter in search of the Glasto hashtag. It’s safe to say I’m home. My version of reverse culture shock has included:. Finding London is unfriendly. Realising Social obligation should not be a thing. Oh and girls, stop ha...

Valencia – Las Fallas | WhatIfYouCan'tSpeaktheLanguage
https://whatifyoucantspeakthelanguage.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/valencia-las-fallas
Let's get lost. Valencia – Las Fallas. The last portion of our carnaval experience was confined to our 24 hour round trip to Valencia! Although Cadiz has the reputation for the best party Valencia has the most history in terms of carnaval tradition. The arrival of spring and warmer weather is celebrated in a week-long event where artists, painters and sculptors design Fallas that contain figurines called Ninots. These can be up to thirty metres high! Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? Enter your comment here.

Granada – A City of Awesome Views | WhatIfYouCan'tSpeaktheLanguage
https://whatifyoucantspeakthelanguage.wordpress.com/2014/02/24/granada-a-city-of-awesome-views
Let's get lost. Granada – A City of Awesome Views. This weekend I got to visit a city that every Madrileno talks about. Full of history, incredible sights, cheap food and mixed culture; sounded like my kind of place. It was – and I’m still a little mesmerised. We set off on the not so long journey, excited to see yet more of Spain. In my eyes the year abroad is proving to be for anything other than University! After this we pottered about for a little bit experiencing Pakistani tea in Arabic tea shops; b...

Let's get lost. The last of the Bucket List, Espana. Space Monkey and Star Studio. There are just so many bars in Madrid, hundreds, possibly even thousands. Spending time with the Erasmus society and following the cheap student nights out places such as Kapital. A seven floor discoteca) , Independance Club. From my one experience of bartenders dancing on a bar (I thought it only happened in movies) this is an experience I will have to tick off my list. The Retiro – Boats and Skates. Let's get lost. Revision for a few hours. Boring you don’t want to hear about that. Then onto actual shopping, for birthday outfits, trying out another fro-yo shop, we have to know which one is the best! Tomorrow I am another year older and I’ll be celebrating in Madrid. Let's get lost. The Girls Who Travelled with Fairy Wings. In the Retiro we found the most random carnaval imaginable, okay so we knew it was in aid of spring but grasshoppers, asparagus and dragons? Not really what I would label as carnaval float material. The procession was short, late as is the Spanish way but also full of joy. The older ladies in front of us really made it, not dressed up but calling out to every act, “Bolivia? Saturday night was so much better. After a day of paddling in the sea,...

#MyBigAdventure | WhatIfYouCan'tSpeaktheLanguage
https://whatifyoucantspeakthelanguage.wordpress.com/2014/03/31/mybigadventure
Let's get lost. When travelling there is always that one sock that goes missing; the washing powder you were really proud to have packed will disappear; and the hair band that would be quite useful to keep your humidity-induced-afro from your sweaty face will have been `borrowed`. These things and many more you will fail to re-pack; these things will be lost. So, I am going to give it a shot. What is #MyBigAdventure? How I will lose everything:. Step One: – The loss of humdrum. However, my best pictures ...

Let's get lost. The Lion’s Roar. Which means I can sit on the balcony of my apartment at 23.15 in shorts and a t-shirt. Watch the strangely dressed people go by,. Drink my green tea which is so much better than the black tea here,. And hear the homeless people clap and shout their own stories throughout the square beneath me. I’m a spy in my own city. Madrid is on the outside of me since I’ve been back. It is no longer the scent of my own skin that I cannot distinguish,. It’s louder than before. Click to...
