To signify I was overseas. Displaying such flags to signify a family member is overseas serving with the military dates back to both World War I and II. Shortly after I got home two days ago, my parents sent me this picture of my father ceremonially taking down the service flag they had displayed outside their house.

The mob orders gave me over a month to prepare myself, my wife, and our year-and-a-half old son, not to mention stew over, my impending deployment. To Naval Operational Support Center (NOSC) Alameda, CA, my home reserve center, to finish up some final administrative tasks. Like NMPS, demobing was significantly easier than mobilizing.
