Sunday, December 27, 2009. The last time the girls went to Miss Lisa's (our daycare provider) she sent us off with the following little anecdote: "We were singing Christmas carols and having lots of fun. (This is the first year they've been exposed to them and really don't know that many). We sang "Joy to the World" and when we came to. The Lord has come. Ava asked, 'Who's the Lord? I made a delicious recipe today for dinner, from the Food Network. I did change a few things though. I did not have gorgonzola cheese, I used mozzarella instead. I also did not have bacon so I used a couple of slices of smoked ham chopped up. By the way I found this recipe by searching google the ingredients I had on hand. Posted by Monkeyz Mommy. Life on the Hill: School Readiness
http://ourfreerangelife.blogspot.com/2012/07/school-readiness.html
Life on the Hill. Friday, July 27, 2012. Has anyone read Penelope Trunk? She has both a career. Blog Her strict unschooling is often a little more than I can handle. (For example, she doesn't limit screen time.) But occasionally her posts really resonate with me, as is the case with today's post about kindergarten readiness. It's that time of year! August 5, 2012 at 2:39 PM. My son has some sensory issues, which we discovered/heard of in 2nd grade. I think his dad had/has them, too. Some things t...I hav...

Life on the Hill. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Science in the Bluegrass. Not everyone in Kentucky is an ignorant hillbilly, but there are some GOP lawmakers in the Bluegrass State who have done their part. To help perpetuate that particular stereotype by suggesting we lower our academic standards in science. In other words, they want creationism to be taught alongside evolution in biology, and they want it stressed that evolution is "just a theory.". In which he expresses his views on teaching evolution.

Life on the Hill: Drifting Toward Unschooling
http://ourfreerangelife.blogspot.com/2012/03/drifting-toward-unschooling.html
Life on the Hill. Wednesday, March 7, 2012. When I first researched homeschooling, I fell in love with the classical model presented in The Well-Trained Mind. All the books, the history, the logic, the math! Oh and don't forget the memory work, grammar, multiplication tables, geography, and spelling. This was right up my alley. my kind of learning. And while there are still many things I like about this model, I've sure thrown out a lot of the others. Does that have anything to do with the kind of book l...

Life on the Hill: My Sister
http://ourfreerangelife.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-sister.html
Life on the Hill. Friday, December 2, 2011. As an atheist, I understand the science behind schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. I know that a combination of genetics and environmental factors caused my sister's breakdown, and that severe mental illness runs in my dad's family. Is it comforting to know these things? Perhaps in the sense that knowing what causes it helps us better manage and watch for it. December 8, 2011 at 7:19 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Least Favorite Bible Quote.

Life on the Hill: Born in the USA
http://ourfreerangelife.blogspot.com/2012/07/born-in-usa.html
Life on the Hill. Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Born in the USA. When a whole nation is roaring Patriotism at the top of its voice, I am fain to explore the cleanness of its hands and purity of its heart. All that said, I am incredibly drawn to the secular values our nation was founded on. As I have begun reading the first chapters of Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism. Am I proud to be an American? There's a really great quote that's incorrectly attributed to Thomas Jefferson and that appears to ha...
