Raising Cajuns: Learning to Love an Interest You Hate
http://www.raisingcajuns.com/2013/11/learning-to-love-interest-you-hate.html
Thursday, November 14, 2013. Learning to Love an Interest You Hate. So, there's my secret. I hate Pokémon. Unfortunately, my children love it. The card game. The characters. The videos. I'm sure you have some annoying interests running rampant in your house, too. Believe me, I understand the urge to draw the imaginary line and say, "No more! I know the feeling of ENOUGH. Really, you can bear it just a little longer. First, the kids got binders and card sleeves and spent hours. I love seeing all of those ...
Raising Cajuns: March is for Botany (because it's garden time!)
http://www.raisingcajuns.com/2015/03/march-is-for-botany.html
Friday, March 13, 2015. March is for Botany (because its garden time! It's been pretty slow around here the past few months. Steady, sluggish plodding through the days. And I'm ok with that, really. Winter is for reading, writing, sewing, knitting (the oldest is knitting now! All of those quiet, indoor activities and projects. But spring is coming, folks . . . Our first mud pie of the year! My mom picked up a ton of flower seeds for us. On clearance at the dollar store last year! This year we're adding i...
Raising Cajuns: Curriculum
http://www.raisingcajuns.com/p/curriculum.html
I plan to pull from a wide variety of materials, methods, and styles. I like to call it Gumbo Homeschooling. A little of this, a little of that, mix it up, taste, reseason. As always, I reserve the right change my mind and shift gears as often as I see the need to do so. Flexibility is the key to my survival in this house. 2nd grade - Harper (7 ½ yrs). Singapore Math 2A and 2B. Life of Fred - Elementary Series (Apples and Butterflies, maybe Cats). Explode the Code 3 and 4. 7th Grade - Ella (12 yrs).
Raising Cajuns: Modeling: Making time and space for my own projects
http://www.raisingcajuns.com/2014/05/modeling-my-projects.html
Thursday, May 1, 2014. Modeling: Making time and space for my own projects. People talk quite a bit about modeling behaviors they want their children to emulate. Most of the time they're referring to character traits or ethical behaviors - telling the truth, practicing nonviolence, showing kindness, etc. But what about modeling other values? Those that might require more time and space? Steal those moments when you can, but if you only. You investing time in what's important to you. Of course, I've alway...
Raising Cajuns: Sewing Projects
http://www.raisingcajuns.com/2015/02/sewing-projects.html
Monday, February 9, 2015. I hope your year is off to a great start. We're . . . um . . . still settling in. Mmmkay? We were sick most of January (some of us are actually still on round 2 or 3 of this freaking cold), so we got off to a slow start. I figure if we spent the month getting back into some minimal routines we're at least off to a good start in the right direction. It all started with simple stuffies from drawings. Then she moved on to create a whole Pokémon menagerie. There are more dragons now.

Creative Bubbles: Some Tuesday Luvin'
http://creative-bubbles.blogspot.com/2011/08/some-tuesday-luvin.html
Tuesday, August 30, 2011. How is everyone doing this fine Tuesday? We have had a great day of cleaning and gardening, plus some new fun developments in Miss Moira's growth. She has discovered the stairs, the toilet, and how to take off her diaper! I seriously can't take my eyes off of her. she is so fast and the poor thing bumps her head or falls down tons everyday in her quest to walk. Anyhow, here are some cool things that I have found, tried, or heard about:. How to make a book cover bunting. Here are...

Creative Bubbles: 9 Months Old!
http://creative-bubbles.blogspot.com/2011/09/9-months-old.html
Friday, September 9, 2011. 9 months old already? Well, three quarters of Miss Moira's first year is over! What a difference just a month makes in this baby's life and development. Nurses a lot still. Clicks her tongue to call the pets. Stands up without holding onto something. Shakes her head "no". Snorts and growls when she is mad. Still has only 2 teeth. Loves to be read to and played with. Favorite toys are matchbox cars. I'm pretty sure that I have places to go and things to get into! Yes, it is 1am.
Creative Bubbles: Soul Pancake Bites: #2- Overreacting
http://creative-bubbles.blogspot.com/2011/08/soul-pancake-bites-2-overreacting.html
Thursday, August 25, 2011. Soul Pancake Bites: #2- Overreacting. When is the last time you overreacted? Was it worth it? Me being me, I tend to get all up in arms first and think about it later, especially if it is a topic that I am passionate about. Things like birthing, breastfeeding, homeschooling, vaccinating, gentle parenting, arts education, animal welfare, Spanx. these are all things that I will get on a soap box about. Or the one connecting the Hep B vaccine to SIDS? Why should I have to hide the...

Sunday, August 23, 2015. Camping Hacks: The Results are In. I hate packing. I'll do pretty much anything to avoid it. No matter how much I'm looking forward to the trip. Highly organized master checklists creation: check. CAMPING HACK TRIALS: CHECK. Easy for kids to make, low prep (save the tubes and lint), easy to pack, effective. Stuff dryer lint into empty cardboard tubes, insert birthday candle. Easy to prep (not so much for kids), great size for packing. Even mint dental floss wasn't a problem!
Home With Heart: January 2017
http://homewithheart.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Celebrating dailiness} wintry potpourri. Nestled in on a cold wintry day. Bunnies snooze. The heater hums. And wintry potpourri simmers on the stovetop. Few orange slices (best citrus for the job - I tried lemon, lime and grapefruit as well). Whole cloves (doesn't take many). Also makes a nice little gift for a friend, if you include a whole orange along with the other ingredients, in a clear little bag and tied up with a bit of baker's twine! Links to this post. Home With Heart: June 2015
http://homewithheart.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Well it ain't much. But we call it home. Or, "tent," or "tipi," or. something. It's that time of year, when schedules relax and days open out ahead of us. So, we grabbed the bamboo poles we picked up at the garden center two summers ago (still "tied" together from our last go), spread a blanket under and wrapped a temporary cloth around our frame (a safety pin works fine! Perfect reading, snacking, drawing, chatting spot! And did I say "temporary"? Links to this post. In the Year o...

The Cain Family
Wednesday, November 12, 2008. We had too much fun this Halloween. Our neighborhood had a little festival. Caleb and his buddy Jeremiah went down the inflatable slide 100 times. Then we all went on a hayride. Later that week, Caleb had two Fall parties at school where he loaded up on goodies. Below is a picture of him sacked out in the car on the way home from school with stickers on his face and his bag of candy. Also pictured below is my 4-year-old class at our Fall party. A few pics of little Jakers!

Raising Cajuns
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Someone explain how I have a seventh grader and a second grader? Surely my math must be off somewhere. It feels like just last year we were starting this journey, and my kids were seven and three. Yes Did we spend lots of time discovering passions and working toward project goals? Yup Did we flail around a lot and lose focus and let the ball drop on some other, less-important things? My oldest is transitioning to more independent work, and she loves it so far. (Yes! Ella just ...
