As per custom, reflections on the year past. | a rambling glutton.

https://ramblingglutton.wordpress.com/2012/01/13/48

As per custom, reflections on the year past. I was once told, that once you hit the mid-twenties, the years whiz right by you, and when people ask you for your age, you actually have to engage your mind in simple arithmetic. I finally get it. Shite. Which is not entirely true. So when a chance came by, of course I took it. I would gladly do it all over again. So here’s to the coming year: While I don’t know if I may be in chef whites again, what other whites I may be in, may the year be once ...You are c...

Pavaroti, PappaRoti…? | a rambling glutton.

https://ramblingglutton.wordpress.com/2011/12/06/pavaroti-papparoti

Pavaroti, PappaRoti…? This is what I call soft, fluffy, buttery heaven. With the aroma of coffee, of course. It is none other than the ‘famous’ PappaRoti. I shall explain the apostrophes: To me, it is famous. Why? Because its origins in Malaysia! And after not having it for years since it disappeared mysteriously from the other place I am from, lo and behold, I find it in – of all places – Korea! Incredibly hungry each time, so all other thoughts get abandoned…). I did find a lot of Rotiboy. So anyway&#4...

That thing about food. Double shot espresso skinny 3/4 latte. Just the way you liked it? Perhaps I’m overdoing it, but I’m sure you catch my drift. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The last bit of kimchi | a rambling glutton.

https://ramblingglutton.wordpress.com/2011/12/14/the-last-bit-of-kimchi

The last bit of kimchi. L-R: Kimchi packed in tight; Even my monster constainer was not big enough for this year's kimjang! As I slice up my last bunch of kimchi and cleaned out my huge kimchi container, I felt conflicted. I just realised I have associated a feeling with slicing up kimchi. The immediate double-take and spontaneous ‘WHAT THE -bleep-? 8217; follows.) [PG13]. Really, has an interesting history. So interesting that I actually spent a free afternoon at the Korean Cultural Office. I think this...

To and back from the land of Oz | a rambling glutton.

https://ramblingglutton.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/to-and-back-from-the-land-of-oz

To and back from the land of Oz. Not been too long since my feet have touched Aussie soil, but compared to a quickie trip filled with wedding dresses and family time, the trip is now slightly extended, with brodesmaids dresses (3 months of wedding dress saga had just past), more friend-time, more me-time. I’m sure I did pretty well. Post-Bangkok trip over a random weekend, and another thing to miss about Sydney was the Thai food. Strange, but true. It’s that good, people. A trip that went by too fast.

Saturday, January 11, 2014. A brush with Boston. I'm not a sporty kinda person I'll admit. However, I've definitely watched my fair share of football matches, basketball playoffs, the Olympics etc. On the telly, that is. I have never watched a professional game live (I think) except for probably once at a golf event. That was probably it. Take me back to the ball park! Helen (Grab Your Fork). LuMi only serves a degustation menu but it's probably the best way to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Dinner started with some little snacks. The braised oxtail croquette was the best of the lot and whilst I liked the cheesy egg custard, I wished it was served warmer. Dulse, Jerusalem Artichokes, Oyster Powder.

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. I thought I should squeeze in a last post so that I can say goodbye to 2013 properly. It's been one big year for me. And as always, it's been a year of eating. It keeps getting better and better and new experiences keep things interesting. There were many highlights of course which I shall reserve for another post. I hope that it'd stay the same way for 2014 and that I get to travel more. And I wish the same for all of you too. Have a wonderful 2014! January 2, 2014 at 10:17 AM.

http://sooksfoodnotes.blogspot.com/2013/12/sat-bains-momofuku-seiobo.html

Monday, December 09, 2013. Sat Bains @ Momofuku Seiobo. We started in typical Seiobo fashion with a little canapé of fried chicken batter and smoked roe. It was crispy, moreish and I could have managed quite a few more. The chicken flavour really came through and the smoked roe reminded me of mentaiko which I liked very much. Mussel juice, dill. The next dish from the Seiobo team was another excellent one and probably stands alongside the scampi dish for 2nd most favourite dish(es) of the night. The ...

I think Quay is absolutely worthy of being Restaurant of the Year and although I'm still bummed that Tetsuya hasn't got its 3rd hat back (yet), winning the Diner's Choice award confirms his place in Sydney's food scene. And his star is also shining brightly in Singapore's dining scene with the excellent work he's put in at Waku Ghin. More on that to come but first, this year's winners list in the city area.
