Half way to Lima | Rambling Ralph

Bedtime stories from South America. Half way to Lima. December 17, 2014. Having been recommended a small town half way to Lima, we jumped on yet another bus heading south. We arrived at the border crossing to Peru at about 4am to find that the office wasn’t expecting the scheduled bus. After half an hour of waiting a very sleepy officer turned up to irritably stamp our documents barely giving them a second glance. Good thing I’m not a wanted man yet. This entry was posted in Peru. Bedtime stories from South America. Four Buses and a Taxi. December 9, 2014. Having sadly moved on from the paradise that was Mompiche, I arrived at Canoa after 4 buses and a taxi. The journey would have been worse but a cheap taxi ride saved me the pain of a 3 bus ride in the wrong direction to start my trip. This entry was posted in Ecuador. The Last of Ecuador →. Bedtime stories from South America. Two sides of nowhere. October 19, 2014. Reserva Los Cedros is a 17,000 acre Cloud Forest reserve just north of a tiny ramshackle town called Chontal; it would be my home for the next month. Image: Glass frog, mudfooted.com. My stay was drawing to the end when finally one of the camera traps caught some fantastic shots of the Pumas. There, in the darkness, were two curious big cats. It’s rare to see them but even more so to catch a mating pair together. As I...With my t...

Rambling 'round the Rainforest
Rambling 'round the Rainforest. Thursday, March 6, 2014. We Move Slowly, But Really, We Are Not Lazy! There are 2 types of sloths on this rainforest island in the Panama Canal. You can easily tell them apart by their coloration and how many claws they have on their front legs. Sloths dig their long sharp claws into a branch to hold on while they are hanging upside down in the canopy layer of the rainforest. Sloths live in a mutualistic situation with algae and moths. Both of these live in sloth fur.
