Opinions on politics, the world and sport. A Grey Fantail, photo taken at Hickey Island, Yamba, NSW. (c) M. Feaver. On a lighter note, I thought I’d share a photo and a fact from my recent trip away. This little chap is a Grey Fantail; these birds are not at all shy around humans, hence my ability to get a good shot. In fact, they apparently exploit the fact that a person walking about can disturb small flying insects to enjoy an easy meal. This entry was posted in random. July 21, 2013.
Ashes Preview | ramblingsofapoliticsstudent
https://ramblingsofapoliticsstudent.wordpress.com/2013/11/12/ashes-preview
Opinions on politics, the world and sport. It is sure to be an enthralling series. Australia appears to be on the back foot, whilst England looks good, albeit not at their dominant best. In front of eager Australian crowds, with the Australian’s eager to reclaim the Ashes, anything could happen. In spite of that, England is clearly the better of the two teams. My prediction is for a 3-1 victory to England. This entry was posted in cricket. November 12, 2013. The 44th Parliament sits for the first time.

A blog about cricket and sporting culture. Category Archives: long form. November 10, 2013. My last post was during the last Ashes series. Strangely enough, that was a mere few months ago. In some ways this fact is a microcosm of why I haven’t been writing as much recently. Diamonds retain their value through an artificial scarcity keeping both symbolic worth and cost high. The opposite principal is being … Continue reading →. A Tale of Two Tours. May 29, 2013. How did things change so fast? May 20, 2013.

A blog about cricket and sporting culture. Wimbledon – Geezers Need Excitement. June 27, 2013. It is the greatest tennis tournament on earth, and this year the two current players who struggle for the ‘greatest’ tag won’t be involved in the final rounds. Wimbledon is suddenly an open tournament again. I should qualify this post. I still expect the top seeds of each major draw to win. That remains the default setting in major tennis tournaments, and as a result the first few rounds are always fair...Fill ...

A blog about cricket and sporting culture. Ramith Rambukwella’s Strange Selection. April 2, 2013. I’ve wanted to write for some time about the intersection of politics and cricket in Sri Lanka, but there are some incredibly complicated issues to sort through. Instead, my first post on this subject is going to be about an interesting squad selection for a T20 match. The player is a 21 year old batting allrounder called Ramith Rambukwella. That Rambukwella’s performances in the recent domestic compet...

A blog about cricket and sporting culture. Ross Meurant’s The Red Squad Story – Review. March 19, 2013. The Springbok Tour of 81, as the cliche goes, divided a nation. A blog about cricket and sporting culture. February 21, 2013. This is, of course, a cricket website, so its time to get to the point. Cricket is just another facet of Irish society where the. Opportunities don’t exist at home, so their best are forced to leave in order to advance their careers. As was the case for many waves of the Irish diaspora, this is not the fault of anyone in Ireland. Rather, external forces with power over the island have conspired to exclude and marginalise the Irish. In 2012 the...

Players who did well, players who should have done better, players who will be in World XIs, players who fulfil some obscure statistical criteria. Each to their own. Convention dictates that any list about cricketers must be 11 entries long, so here it is:. 2) Nick Compton. Unfairly cast aside after finding some impressive run-scoring form in New Z...

Ramblings of a Pixelpuss. By Fuzzbutt of SL. July 12, 2016. July 12, 2016. I must be old. Or I must be getting old. The Boss has been making a big thing of me turning 900 days all week long. That sounds old, doesn’t it? That’s a BIG number, nine hundred. So, I’m 900 today. 900 days. How many days is that in cat years? 8230; No, it’s too far away. I’m tired. I need a nap. Surely old kittycats have rights to more naps than all those crazy kittens. Nine hundred days, umpteen thousand kitty-days I am sure.
