http://www.ramblingsoverstiles.com/squeezeandquad(part1)

Squeeze and Quad (part 1). From vertical slab to squeeze stile. Fig 75 Hardcasle Craggs. West Yorkshire. This stile has a vertical slab but also, because of the narrow gap, it moves towards the characteristics of a squeeze stile. Interestingly it also has a wooden gate covering the gap. This is commonly found with squeeze stiles. Looking more like it but still with a small vertical slab. Fig 76 Buxton, Derbyshire. More typical of its type. Fig 77 Bradford Dale, Derbyshire. Fig 78 Edale, Derbyshire.

doggates - www

Finally in this section come dog flaps, dog gates, dog passes etc. BS 5709 refers to dog passes, using the name dog gate . A device allowing the passage of a dog whilst preventing the passage of livestock. The British Standard dog gate. Fig 112 A vertical slider but not very easy to lift; a handle might help! Near Shining Tor, Derbyshire. This rotating flap is easier, but is not self closing and could be left open. Fig 113 Also near Shining Tor. This one is good to use, but Emma appears slightly reluctant.

squeezeandquad(part2) - www

http://www.ramblingsoverstiles.com/squeezeandquad(part2)

Squeeze and Quad (part 2). Fig 83 Bowthorpe, Norwich. Fig 84 It’s very much a squeeze if you are carrying a backpack! About one foot wide, this is only for thin walkers. The three wooden posts are guarding this footbridge. Fig 86 Wenhaston, Suffolk. Fig 87 Southerndown, Vale of Glamorgan. And finally in this section is a rather untidy example of a wooden post squeeze stile from Heerlen in The Netherlands. The route can be followed from the worn path. One from Scotland and the other from Switzerland.

miscellaneous(part3) - www

http://www.ramblingsoverstiles.com/miscellaneous(part3)

This stile is on a temporary diversion so it is most commendable that it is of this high standard. Close to BS requirement. Fig 171 Rockland St. Mary, Norfolk. This could be a vertical slab stile but it is unusual in that the top slab is about 35 mm (14 inches) wide rather than the usual 7 to 10 mm width. It is however easy to climb over with a useful handpost. Fig 172 Castelton, Derbyshire (Mam Tor in the distance). But there are others which come a close second. Fig 173 Cantley, Norfolk.

miscellaneous(part1) - www

http://www.ramblingsoverstiles.com/miscellaneous(part1)

Finally a selection of various non-standard stiles etc., and some examples of good and bad practice in the provision of stiles generally. An ingenious use of old road kerb stones. Very stable and comfortable to use. This stile has been removed and replaced by a gap. Fig 143 Southwold, Suffolk. An unusual metal stile alongside the River Waveney. This may have some railway connections as there is a railway bridge abutment adjacent. Fig 144 Gillingham Norfolk. Also in Corsica a type of stone squeeze stile.

Rambling southern monkey | Because we all need a place we can call our own

Because we all need a place we can call our own. A Ramble on turning 30. Today seems like a good day to have a ramble. A ramble on turning 30 yup that’s right. I wrote a post 5 years back now about getting older and how I was looking forward to it. In all honesty the 5 years between then and now have flown by in a mixture of jobs, moving to London, losing loved ones, watching loved ones get married, have kids and yup still being a total failure when it comes to dating J. In recent months I have noticed l...

Omgomgomgomg.I'm so excited, I could shit rainbows. Melancholia Trailer - Lars Von Trier. His films are so haunting and gorgeous and provocative. A lot of the scenes from this trailer mirror those from his earlier film, 'Antichrist', another beautiful work of art. Whilst very disturbing (potentially scarring to the general audience), I was in a daze and it absorbed my thoughts completely.a similar reaction that I hope will transpire from this film.
