Ranch of the Oaks. The modern Icelandic sheep is a direct descendant from sheep brought to the Iceland by Viking settlers in the ninth and tenth century. They were of the North European Short tailed type. Genetically they are the same today as they were 1100 years ago and are possibly the oldest and purest domesticated sheep in the world. The meat is fine grained with excellent flavor. The fiber is a dual coat. The fine undercoat is called ". And the long, courser outercoat is called ".

Ranch of the Oaks. Herd sires residing at Ranch of the Oaks are available for breeding. (Alpaca, llama, and Icelandic sheep) See our sales pages for details. All alpaca and llama breeding is supervised. Sheep are pasture bred. (Boarding fees may apply). Birthing at Ranch of the Oaks is in a secure, sheltered area. Fences are 5 to 6 feet tall, close to our main house and alarm dogs. All alpacas and llamas boarded will be professionally cared for during their stay here.

Tour de Fleece 2014 →. June 15, 2014. In may I was lucky enough to visit Ranch of the Oaks. With my friend Sara and her parents. It was such a treat! We met alpacas, sheep, guinea hens, a pack of doofy dogs, and got a tour of the fiber mill. Turns out Ranch of the Oaks gets a lot of raw fiber from Eugene, OR!
