A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Friday, April 10, 2015. The sun is out this morning and with some difficulty, I step out on the back porch and hear the call of the mourning doves and the chirping of the smaller birds as they fill their little chests and hearts with the fresh spring air. The ducks watch me covertly (they think.but I can see them there on the lawn, still as statues). Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Deliriously happy ranch wife living on 250,000 acr...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Thursday, August 28, 2014. At last the radio fencing is complete and the Polarbears are back on duty. The sheep were ecstatic to see them and it wasn’t a day too soon, as I went out to visit, just in time to see them go after an ENORMOUS coyote that was headed for the sheep. EmmaLou was out cruising around….ever the ham…. The garden is finally giving me veggies…. And Potamus is surrounded by his sheeple, a very happy guy. Links to this post. Throu...

I am also thankful for all of you out there, my readers, FB friends and online friends I will never meet on this side of heaven. You have encouraged me and lifted me up, when I felt so isolated out here without much human contact. Your comments, letters and offerings have been much appreciated. Links to this post. A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Sunday, July 20, 2014. TheMan is home, running the pivots and fixing equipment. I'm hoping against hope that he will be able to help me finish the mile of dog fencing as I really need to get the Maremmas back out with the sheep where they belong. He bought the rest of the cavvy in from across the road. Links to this post. Thursday, July 3, 2014. I took some pics of the cowboys working for him. Eventually he staggered out of bed 5 hours later than ...

For those of you who have been patient enough to follow along with me this past few months, thank you. For those who are new, I’ll fill in as briefly as I am able. Being 4 hours from the closest town with decent grocery shopping, I begged TheMan to buy me a Jersey cow for Mother’s Day.well, actually it kind of looked like this. That Mother’s Day). That brings me to the most recent. The end of last...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. It seems as though we are going to town every month right now, which is WAY too often to suit me. But, the upside is, we get to listen to a book tape, eat in a fancy restaurant and.bring home DUCKS! Last night he came in to see the ducklings. He picked up every single one and held it until they were mesmerized. Who knew there was such a thing as a “Duck Whisperer”? Never a dull moment. Links to this post. The Agony of Defeat.

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Wednesday, December 10, 2014. A Handful of Blessing. Although this past year has been one of unusual pain and loss, it is good to ponder the blessings that were received, as well. To begin with, this spring we had an incredibly good lamb crop. It was really satisfying to watch them play and grow and watch how well the Maremmas took care of them, even snuggling at night and sleeping with Captain Marbles, who had been rejected by his mother. The Bos...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Saturday, July 4, 2015. A neighbor pulls calf behind him, waiting for a heeler. One of the ranch cowboys is set up for the heel shot. 2 pair of buckaroos keep the ropes tight while the branding crew does the ground work. Big smiles are always a treasure from this girl, as she recoils her rope and gets ready to bring another one in. Neighbor and her nice horse digging in and starting towards the branding crew. Getting the job done. Sounds like you ...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Thursday, January 1, 2015. BBB (Blessed Beyond Belief). We spent Christmas in California and got to see most of our family. The scenery between the ranch and Southern CA is incredibly varied. It was a really good trip. My family who were so incredibly kind to me, while we were down there, have really put themselves out on my behalf. Kinley, our 3 yr old. Granddaughter, has not seen us much, as we all live so far apart, so she has always been a bit...
