Rate Your Students: Does Anyone Know How to Interview? Ten Mistakes from Yesterday's MLA.

http://rateyourstudents.blogspot.com/2008/12/does-anyone-know-how-to-interview-ten_3714.html

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Does Anyone Know How to Interview? Ten Mistakes from Yesterdays MLA. We had ten interviews yesterday for our asst. prof position in English/Creative Writing. The job ad says the teaching duties are 2 comps, one 400-level seminar in the candidate's field of specialty, and one intro CW class. We had more than 150 applications, from which we've set 20 interviews for MLA (although two opted for phone interviews instead because of costs.). Local time, not the time in San Francisco.

Rate Your Students: Where We Don't Even Pretend To Try and Figure Out What To Write For a Title

http://rateyourstudents.blogspot.com/2007/08/where-we-don-even-pretend-to-try-and_6881.html

Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Where We Dont Even Pretend To Try and Figure Out What To Write For a Title. A professed fan of the site sends along this list of "ideas":. Y'all gone soft there at RYS. There was a time when you put the cart in front of the horse, or just ate the horse for lunch and pushed the cart down the mountain. Now y'all just nice and polite and it's making me a little sick. (Look, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.). Every Friday, post a picture of the cutest ass in someone's ...

Rate Your Students: On Student Evaluations

http://rateyourstudents.blogspot.com/2006/11/on-student-evaluations_918.html

Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Let me start by saying that I love my job. I love teaching. I love the research component because it's all mine, but I mostly love the classroom and the never-ending supply of young people. I've been in the game for 26 years and think I'm pretty sure I will teach until I retire several years from now. Get to give the grades," etc. And of course it's all complete bullshit. My students, for all of their sweetness and energy, don't have any idea whatsoever about my worth as a pro...

http://rateyourstudents.blogspot.com/2007/10/pow-gumdrop-unicorns-in-center-of_6825.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2007. POW: Bright Gumdrop Unicorns in the Center of the Universe. Junior Faculty On the Move. Nobody seemed to understand what happens to a department when a junior faculty announces his/her departure, almost always late in the Spring semester, when suddenly the department must engage in high-speed job searches for another junior faculty member probably also looking elsewhere. Or would they be satisfied if their colleagues saw them as "just the lady who worked on the budget"? I hop...

Rate Your Students: "May Your Perfidy Ramify Through Your Life." If We Only Had a Dime For Every Time We Said That.

http://rateyourstudents.blogspot.com/2007/05/your-perfidy-ramify-through-your-life_9804.html

Monday, May 21, 2007. May Your Perfidy Ramify Through Your Life. If We Only Had a Dime For Every Time We Said That. I have read your stories about anime characters, complete with super-deformed doodles, your tales of extraterrestrials and werewolves and vampires. It is interesting that your eyes turn to the supernatural world so often, since you have such an impoverished notion of this one. Randall Jarrell, in. Pictures From An Institution.

Academic Wasteland: In the office

http://academic-wasteland.blogspot.com/2008/06/in-office.html

The stories and adventures of a wandering PhD candidate trying to reach the holy grail of intellectual achievement - the doctoral dissertation. -photo by Paul Ryan. Monday, June 23, 2008. After loafing my way through San Diego coffee houses for the last two weeks I find myself back in my windowless basement adjunct office. And, I'm happy to be here. I love the campus during the summer, it is quiet, cool, and there are no lines for ordering coffee! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Who doesn't love roses.

Still reeling a bit | science of staying awake

https://deadwhiteguy.wordpress.com/2011/12/28/still-reeling-a-bit

Science of staying awake. Still reeling a bit. December 28, 2011. I got the job offer! Now I need clothes to work in an office. Naturally I have brightly colored tents to choose from, as I am larger than a size 12. We’ll see how that works out. I’ll sleep during the night, work during the day, have weekends free and no longer have to negotiate with drunk people. Amazing! One response to “ Still reeling a bit. April 8, 2016 at 8:57 am. Seriously?: August 2008

http://seriouslysays.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

I have always made fun of bloggers. And yet, here I am. I am a Ph.D. student and I study political rhetoric - which might mean I'm boring. I'm not sure anymore. My friends tell me they can't wait until I have children because it will be awesome to meet a three year old who not only comprehends but can employ sarcasm. Whatever. Shelfari: Book reviews on your book blog. Places where people talk about interesting things. Oohscary phantoms and professors. Politics - delicious, delicious politics. I study pol...

I created a more-or-less professional profile (using my work location) to see if this would be a way to communicate with students at my university. I’ve also found that a number of my old friends in the Seattle area (where I lived for 21 years, until 2006) are also on Facebook, originally to keep in tou...

The stories and adventures of a wandering PhD candidate trying to reach the holy grail of intellectual achievement - the doctoral dissertation. -photo by Paul Ryan. Tuesday, July 8, 2008. I've been on hiatus from blogging. There have been many things occupying my brain and my time that I have not had the time or the desire to blog. However, many interesting things have been happening. I am working on many different projects right now. I am currently editing a 44 page article for the journal Octopus.

The stories and adventures of a wandering PhD candidate trying to reach the holy grail of intellectual achievement - the doctoral dissertation. -photo by Paul Ryan. Tuesday, August 5, 2008. I detect a soft breeze. I am sitting here in my living room trying to feel a breeze. It isn't easy working in the heat. It especially isn't easy working in stale air, and so I am waiting for a breeze that will give me the support I need to write. Great to hear the class is going so well! August 6, 2008 at 9:03 AM.
