Darting Dragonfly: Break in the clouds
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/2014/08/break-in-clouds.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Saturday, 23 August 2014. Break in the clouds. We've had sunshine today! And the children opted to go for a walk! I happened to be in the Cotswolds yesterday, razzing around in a friend's fancy car, and spotted a place called Salford. Which amused me no end, because it's a far cry from the Salford. I know of old. just compare those two skylines! So, no sewing to share today. But I wanted to show you these, instead:. What do you think? And have you had a go?

Darting Dragonfly: June 2013
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Sunday, 9 June 2013. Litany of total fucking disaster. In lavender. Or possibly heather. (Warning: this post contains harsh language from the start). So I have an audition on Friday, for which I want to make a good impression. And last weekend, I happened to be in Sew Me Something. Where they had just 2.5m left of a gorgeous heathery purple polka dot which had caught my eye last time I was there. Well 2.5m is a usable amount, right? With hindsight, I really sh...

Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Tuesday, 2 July 2013. If you can cope with triumph and disaster. Something had to give, after the lavender dotty sewing disaster. And it had to give fast. An absolute dream. Fitted like a glove. First time. And I wore it to work the next day,. The dog loves it. Heading to the audition. Arse like a hippo. And to my audition that very Friday. And many, many days since. I've never made a man's shirt before. There's lots of technical stuff. Collar stands&#...But C...

Darting Dragonfly: Lazy Seamstress Maude skirt
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/2015/04/lazy-seamstress-maude-skirt.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Lazy Seamstress Maude skirt. This is a bit sneaky, really, because you can't actually buy it! But I have had *so* much fun, this weekend, testing a pattern for my wonderful friend Jeanette. She's been drafting patterns for a while, and sells them on her Etsy. She's on my go-to list of people whose style and grace I hope one day to emulate! This weekend, I'm supposed to be sewing a ball dress. So I couldn't make the ball dress, but instea...

Darting Dragonfly: Crochet
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/p/crochet.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. My granny first taught me to crochet, when I was 7 or 8 I suppose. I can't honestly recall *making* anything with crochet as a child. But I knew how to do granny squares, appropriately enough. And that was that. I've only done four or five projects - mostly blankets. A house can never have too many blankets, I find. I started with a blanket for my second nephew, in 2010. Although I can never remember my login details and hardly ever use the site). And on r...

Darting Dragonfly: May 2013
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Sunday, 26 May 2013. Sgt Pepper with a chintzy lining. Anyway. Amy Butler. I went to a talk by her at the Festival of Quilts in 2011. And I bought a pattern for a long, fitted jacket. And I bought the fabric to make it. I got it home, I read the instructions, I got intimidated by the fact I had to know my bicep measurement - MY BICEP MEASUREMENT! And I put it all away in a drawer. But it was far too nice a day to spend entirely in my shed. So I allowed Mr ...

Darting Dragonfly: August 2014
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Friday, 29 August 2014. Earlier this week, I took Josh to the local sewing shop and pulled out some fabrics to make up a bundle of patterns I'd ordered online. I was going to combine new fabrics with stash fabrics and whip my way through a little capsule wardrobe. I got a bit carried away (as one does) and bought quite a lot of fabric - just shy of £100 worth, actually. Josh was horrified: "I thought you said sewing your own stuff was cheaper? So I got started...

Darting Dragonfly: Knitting
http://www.dartingdragonfly.com/p/knitting.html
Skimming the surface of crafting and making. So, knitting. That's for old ladies, right? What was the first thing I knitted? Um, a big chunky Rowan jumper. Which was nice and easy because it's made from Rowan drift wool, knitted on no. 10 needles, and only in two parts. The two parts part is important: I have a very limited tolerance for repeating stuff I've just done. If I knit a front, I can just about convince myself to knit a back, because it's a bit different. But *two* sleeves? And then I got stupi...

Darting Dragonfly: July 2014

Skimming the surface of crafting and making. Thursday, 3 July 2014. When I say beating the deadline, you have to understand I mean it very much in the "deadline passed, this is the new deadline" kind of way. But I have finished the wedding quilt! This quilt is my sister's wedding present. My sister's wedding is 3rd July, so you see how the deadline reference creeps in. However, I am not blogging the quilt from the wedding reception. Oh no, that would be rude! No spoilers. Just snippets. The second thing ...
