“Turi Kumwe” | Reach Out Rwanda

Day 1: Church at Agahozo and Genocide Memorial Center. Celebrating International Women’s Day in Rwanda →. March 7, 2011 · 10:15 pm. 8220;Turi Kumwe”. In Kinyarwanda, the language of Rwanda, “turi kumwe” translates to “We are together.”. Throughout the day of physical labor, discussions, and individual conversations, I felt that in so many ways “We” were together. By that, I felt that today was the second day of interacting with the students here, as well as starting our service project. On a final note, ...

8220;Turi Kumwe”. Thursday- March 11 2011 →. March 9, 2011 · 5:13 am. Celebrating International Women’s Day in Rwanda. It wasn’t a complex message: women are equal. We should celebrate them. But the sheer force of it the discussions, the dancing, the unanimous support was quite impressive. I can’t imagine my high school putting on such an event, let alone one that would receive such celebration. 8220;Turi Kumwe”. Thursday- March 11 2011 →. 3 responses to “. March 9, 2011 at 2:02 pm. About Our Trip | Reach Out Rwanda
https://reachoutrwanda2011.wordpress.com/about
The juxtaposition of its beautiful countryside and the bloody events of its recent past make Rwanda an incredibly interesting place to do service abroad. The genocide, one of the worst in recorded history, levied untold psychological damage on the survivors. This March, we will travel with 13 other Yale students to volunteer at the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village. After our stay at ASYV, it’s on to the traveling portion of our journey! All the best,. Newer posts →. March 6, 2011 · 9:34 pm. Day 1: Church at Agahozo and Genocide Memorial Center. We awoke this morning to a beautiful fog, nestled in the rolling green hills so characteristic of Rwanda. It was so peaceful – the reality of where we are has finally sunk in. Our group outside of the school at ASYV. Today, I am thankful that I passed my exam, and that my uncle came back after 14 years. I am thankful that I am here with three of my sisters, even though the rest of my family was killed. I am tha...

It Takes a Village. Just another WordPress.com site. March 21, 2011. Bringing the World to ASYV. We can’t take 500 ASYV kids around the world, but we can bring the world to them! As the International Coordinator at ASYV my role is to welcome visitors from around the world to ASYV. These individuals and groups make the world outside of ASYV and Rwanda a little bit less mysterious to ASYV students. But often, the visitors leave feeling that they gained even more than they gave. Of heady musings and heart's murmurrings. By definition, a picnic. Is a pleasure excursion at which a meal is eaten outdoors (al fresco or en plein air), ideally taking place in a beautiful landscape such as a park, beside a lake or with an interesting view and possibly at a public event such as before an open air theater performance, and usually in summer. Reach Out Rwanda's Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. April 1, 2010. Will give you a good idea of what life at Agahozo Shalom Youth Village is like for its inhabitants, and some of the stories we heard during our stay there. Ann Heyman has truly created a utopia, and its a testament to the model’s success that children who probably saw their parents hacked to death in front of their eyes are now able to smile, laugh, love and be loved. Love is an action
Love is an action. Monday, December 9, 2013. Recently I visited my wife’s family in Ohio for the holidays. It made me think about all the church signs I see telling everyone in the town that they are welcome. No one wants to walk in and feel the way I did there. People don’t have a desire to invite that type of situation into their lives. Have you invited them? Monday, December 09, 2013. Saturday, June 15, 2013. A lesson i'm still learning from. Saturday, June 15, 2013. Thursday, August 16, 2012. Very an...
