April in Paris

Tuesday, April 27, 2010. So little time, so much to do! Our last full day in Paris - and not a moment to waste! We were up in our usual timely fashion (that is, before most breakfast places were open! And off to a little store we had found on a side-street behind the Comedie Francaise because yesterday we had seen in its window the "perfect gift" - but the store was closed! Surely it had to be open today? So - a quick breakfast (we did manage to find a place! We made our purchases, retraced our steps - a...

http://readersraisinghell.blogspot.com/2010/04/two-more-things.html

Friday, April 23, 2010. I realized I wanted to include a picture from the Cluny - and, of course, one of our wonderful post-concert feast (champagne, pate, bread, cheese, and fruit). Mmmm! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). So little time, so much to do! If its Monday, We Shop. Day on and off the River. Giverny and Monets Gardens. Day Two: 2 churches, a carousel and a demonstrati. From Airport to Airport.

April in Paris: From Airport to Airport

http://readersraisinghell.blogspot.com/2010/04/from-airport-to-airport.html

Wednesday, April 21, 2010. From Airport to Airport. Or a prototype thereof? A bedlam - anxious, angry, frustrated people frantically trying to rebook cancelled flights, taking down stantions, pushing and elbowing trying to get to the front of the (now) non-existent line. Finally a French Functionary (a rare bird! Took charge, extricated those of us who DID have reservations (thanks be to God! And laughed. Then said, somewhat disparagingly, I thought, "just kidding! We're tired. but here are a few pic...

April in Paris: If it's Monday, We Shop

http://readersraisinghell.blogspot.com/2010/04/if-its-monday-we-shop.html

Monday, April 26, 2010. If it's Monday, We Shop. The weather has turned cooler, with April blue skies and silver and grey clouds. We have become proficient enough on the Metro to know when we're in a train headed in the wrong direction - we exit with finesse and head for the opposite tracks! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). So little time, so much to do! If its Monday, We Shop. Day on and off the River. Giverny and Monets Gardens. Day Two: 2 churches, a carousel and a demonstrati.

April in Paris: Day Two: 2 churches, a carousel and a demonstration

http://readersraisinghell.blogspot.com/2010/04/day-two-2-churches-carousel-and.html

Thursday, April 22, 2010. Day Two: 2 churches, a carousel and a demonstration. Yes, we had cafe au lait and croissants for breakfast and headed for Notre Dame to pray for restraint. N.D. is large, under renovation and they're using the many side chapels for storage. We found a friend! One functioning chapel is dedicated to Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe! Immediately we bought a large votive candle and felt at home - there was even a Mexican flag! And we rode on a two-story carousel, Kitty on a horse while C...

The Reader-Reader | You can read what I write about reading readers of others' writings. Hot.

You can read what I write about reading readers of others' writings. Hot. Epistemology of the Closet. July 31, 2010. While I haven’t read Epistemology of the Closet. As many times as I’ve read Rubin, it’s close. But I haven’t heard anyone else lecture on it (isn’t that crazy? Since this whole project is an attempt for me to gather up some gaps in my education, I thought…why not find some lectures on this essay? And then why not share them, here on the blog? Intro to the first speaker, Carolyn Williams.

Reader's Quest | A year of reading and thinking about short stories

A year of reading and thinking about short stories. All Out of Proportion: Alice Munro’s “Leaving Maverley”. January 17, 2012. Charles May’s recent blog post (Part One). Could parsing out some patterns in my native language really be that much harder than analyzing patterns of submarine operations? Couldn’t I get it just by working hard enough? Uh-oh Sound the alarm: metafiction alert. Interesting. There are pages and pages of this story to go. Sounds like a typical writer to me: hiding out and managing ...

Reader's Rants

Friday, January 14, 2011. My Prizes: An Accounting' : Book review. The late author comically skewers his various literary awards in 'My Prizes,' written in 1980 with an absurd and at times tender tone. Just the names of some of the prizes declare the absurd. The Prize of the Cultural Circle of the Federal Association of German Industry? The Literary Prize of the Federal Chamber of Commerce? Pleasure has infiltrated; so does sentiment into Bernhard's mood. Besides writing of his aunt, he describes the...
