Last Friday we even danced to One Direction. Your impact is priceless.

Reading, Writing and Recess: November 2012

http://readingwritingandrecess.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Reading, Writing and Recess. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. It's NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month), and I've been neglecting my poor blog for a while. Sorry! I'm back though. Here's today's post. I went to go talk to my teammate, who sweetly went on a mini-quest for some chocolate to cheer me up (though all he ended up with was granola- it's the thought that counts, right? And as lovely people are wont to do, he reminded me of the thing I momentarily forgot- my Reason. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Reading, Writing and Recess: September 2012

http://readingwritingandrecess.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Reading, Writing and Recess. Tuesday, September 18, 2012. It's times like these when I have to mask my laughter with a question, like, "Why do you think that, darling? Because she thinks the baseball is an egg, DUH, Maestra.") But what I really want to say is, BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My kids are hilarious. And then popcorn also comes out of his pants. Random, I know, but highly amusing). We talk about what a "smarty pants" is (someone who works really hard at school and as a result knows a lot of stuff) and th...

Reading, Writing and Recess: Leave a message after the tone...BEEP!

http://readingwritingandrecess.blogspot.com/2013/08/leave-message-after-tonebeep.html

Reading, Writing and Recess. Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Leave a message after the tone.BEEP! Today I did something I've never done before. I did not ignore a call. I did not pretend to be my voicemail and ask someone to leave a message after the tone (although sometimes it's tempting to do that). What I did was say " Just a minute, please, excuse me. To a parent who walked into my classroom unannounced and interrupted me in the middle of my sentence as I was explaining to a child how to count money.

Reading, Writing and Recess: August 2013

http://readingwritingandrecess.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Reading, Writing and Recess. Tuesday, August 27, 2013. I was just reading this adorable blog called mybilingualclassroom and the author said something interesting: "I'm crazy. I actually like PD." It was kind of funny that I read this today because I was recently re-reading Harry Wong's book The First Days of School. And he talks about how great teachers like. Meetings and don't complain about or get annoyed by them. I happen to work in a district where we have meetings all the time. You don't believe me?

Ideas for Teaching Theme (and a couple freebies!) - Minds in Bloom

http://minds-in-bloom.com/2012/10/ideas-for-teaching-theme-and-couple.html

October 19, 2012. Ideas for Teaching Theme (and a couple freebies! Teaching story elements is generally pretty straight forward. Setting, character, and plot–easy peasy. There are tons of resources available, and the concepts are fairly concrete. But then you get to theme. How to teach something that is abstract, subjective, and requires that oh-so-tricky skill: inference? Define It in Terms Kids Can Understand. Is a good reminder for exactly what theme is. Contrast Theme with Plot or Main Idea. The main...

Reading, Writing, and Random Musings. My Literary Adventures and Other Miscellaneous Tidbits. Book Review – The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. August 17, 2015. American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy tales. Her twin sister, Lacey, has always been the romantic who fantasized about glamour and royalty, fame and fortune. Reading, Writing, and Ranting

Reading, Writing, and Ranting. Monday, May 2, 2011. Is the fact that it took a DECADE to find a guy who was living less than a mile from an American military base something to celebrate? Is celebrating the death of this man all that different than the way he celebrated when the towers fell on that dark day? Would they ever have been so opposed to us that they were willing to die to make us suffer had we not been so arrogant as to think that we had the right to decide how the rest of the world ran? Congra...

reading writing and standing on chairs

Reading writing and standing on chairs. What does it mean to begin a teaching career in one of New York City's most struggling schools? Well, it is a constant push and pull of resources, intellect, perseverance, and creativity. This is a quick and dirty look into my experiences as a brand new teacher in a very old system. Sunday, March 14, 2010. It has been quite some time. I have changed schools, boroughs, roommates, and now have a dog. Sunday, April 27, 2008. I have discovered that I am terrible at tug...
